Bath Seats- two fit in the tub?

Discussion in 'The First Year' started by Jenn Wallace Collins, Feb 12, 2010.

    Hi ladies
I am trying to get my registry together and realized the bath seat I was looking at is kind of big and I don't think two will fit in the tub.
What do you recommend?? It would be nice to bath two at the same time!!

What kind of seats were you looking at?

If you are talking about the first year or so, personally I don't know that I'd want to try to bathe both at once. First of all, they could get kind of chilly sitting exposed in water long enough for you to bathe them both, esp. in the early months. Also, it can be pretty tricky to control a couple of infants at the same time, especially once they get a little bigger and curious. Lastly, what are you going to do with the one in the tub while you dry/dress the other?

For me, the logistics of it don't seem like they would work. I bathe mine one at a time. I got one plastic infant tub and bathe them at the kitchen sink. Much easier on the back than the tub, too, if you can do the kitchen sink! For the record, my boys are approaching 9mos.

BTW, I used this tub for my oldest son, too. He used it until he outgrew it. At this point he was a confident sitter and I transitioned him w/ no problem to regular tub baths.

Once my girls were sitting up, we transitioned to an inflatable ducky tub. I love it. It allows them to be bathed at the same time and play. I too looked at bath seats and talked to a lot of people and wanted these http://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=16609412&RN=7051&

I measured and they will fit together in my tub. I am going to try them in the regular tub with a mat at 8 months and if it gets too crazy, we will get these seats :) Good luck!

I've went through SEVERAL things so far to bathe our boys, and they are only 8 months old. But we have yet to try bathing them together. And probably won't attempt that for at least another month. So I wouldn't put bath item on your registry that is for 2 babies, because I really don't think it is feasible, or at least advisable, to bath 2 tiny babies simultaneously.

I bought this Primo EuroBath tub before the boys came home from the NICU. It's a really good bath tub, but too hard to lug around full of water. I mean, it's HUGE. We started out filling this tub up and moving it to the dresser or bed, and bathing one baby at a time. But it became too much of a chore.

Then I bought this inflatable duck bath tub. Probably not such a good idea at the time given that they still usually screamed bloody murder during their baths then...and the giant yellow duck certainly didn't soothe them, LOL. Only used it once or twice but are saving it for when they are older (like soon).

Then we used the FP Aquarium bathtub for a while as it was easier to fill with water and move to the dresser (where it was easier for us to stand and bathe the babies one at a time). But it's pretty shallow and once they were 5 months or so it seemed like we had to fill it too high to cover them sufficiently and then water would slosh out.

Then we used the Fold N Store Bath Sling for a little bit in our actual bathtub. I must say I loved this thing, it was lightweight and so convenient. But it is also pretty small. So we only used it for a few weeks...

Now we are using the simplest and cheapest of them all: a $6 bath sponge from Target and just lay it down in the bathtub. We fill the water about 2 inches, and it is working out great. I do hate getting down on my knees but it is the easiest way to bathe the babies, and now they are starting to actually enjoy their baths. Only now am I considering bathing both boys together in the near future (they are just under 18 lbs now but not sitting independently yet).

Anyway, there are tons of bath options, and be prepared to go through a variety of them, especially if your babies start out hating baths as much as our boys did!!

Also, regarding your registry, if you haven't heard of it yet, check out www.amazingregistry.com, which will consolidate your registries from a variety of places into one web page. Makes it very convenient for people who want to buy you a baby gift! :)

Well count me the oddball out then! :p I did bath them seperately at first, in an infant tub, until about 5-6 months when they outgrew it. Then we tried in the sink in the kitchen, but they were too slippery and it was hard to keep them upright. So I bought two of the target bath sponges, and laid them side by side in our garden tub (you could lay them end to end in a regular tub) and bathed them at the same time most of the time. As long as dh was home I always bathed them together. Once they hit about 8-9 months and were confident rollers who could hold their heads up great, I got rid of the bath sponges and let them splash around on their bellies in a couple inches of water! They LOVE it! I wait and wash them when they are done, and I lay a bath towel on the floor, take one out, dry and diaper, then take the second one out and dry and diaper. If I think far enough ahead I lotion and dress them too, if not, I carry them into their room to lotion and dress! They love playing in the tub together!

in the beginning we used infant tubs. Personally, I don't think the seat is worth registering for, we had one given to us and we only used it for 3-4 weeks, when they were sitting up, but a little unstable.they really wanted to be out of it and slipped an slid inside itso much that we finally gave in and did away with it. We just started bathing them together, I just wasn't comfortable before with the thought of two in the water and the logistics of leaving one unattended while i dried and diapered the other one. I have seen pic's of twins bathing together in them though, I think it just depends on the size of your tub.

I think this type of an item might be something hard to know ahead of time what you'll like...

I got some type of bath seat that clipped to the side of the tub, but we didn't like them. we ended up with a thin non-slip bath mat and just laid the babies down in an inch or two of water around 6 months... they loved splashing and kicking in the bubbles... when they started sitting up they just sat by themselves.

as for the logistics... yes its a little tricky by yourself... but usually my dh and I bathed them together, or at least got them out together. if I was by myself, I'd just scoot the exersaucer near the bathroom door and put one in there after I dried them off, then dried the other off and get that one settled in to a diaper and crib etc.

good luck... until the 6 mo. mark we just used our laundry room sink to bathe the babies with no special baby bath in there.

    This is what we did:

    Months 0-3: bathed in sink
Months 4-7: used Duck tub (bathed separately)
Months 8 and up: bathe both together in big tub

I didn't think it was worth buying or storing infant bath tubs or bath seats. The Duck tub is cheap and can be deflated so I was okay with buying that. I am happy with how we did baths and will do the same with baby #3.
