It started with Breena throwing up in her crib Thursday morning and then diarrea. She'll take some bottle, but they just come out the other end. The doctor said to switch her to lactose free formula and give her pedialyte. She took some of the new formula but won't drink either the grape or orange pedialyte.

Baylinn threw up in her crib during her morning nap, and has done it twice more. She won't take a bottle OR pedialyte and she's a tiny thing - just 17 pounds - so I'm really worried about her getting dehydrated quickly.

How can I keep them hydrated if they won't drink from sippys or the bottle? I'm worried about having to take them to the ER over the weekend!

What about frozen pedialyte, popsicle style?
Or get a dropper and give them a dropperful of liquid (water, pedialyte, formula) every 5 minutes or so.

Good luck. Hope they get better quickly.

I did pedialyte with a syringe every 10 mins once they stopped throwing up for an hour.

    Hope it passes quickly!

Ditto, use a dropper/cup/syringe....whatever works. Give small amounts of pedialyte (5 mls/ 1 teaspoon) and once they keep that down for 5 mins give some more and continue doing this until you feel they can keep more down then try for a tablespoonful.

Will they use a sippy cup, sometimes they will accept the pedialyte from that instead of having to suck the bottle. I would also try the frozen pedialyte they have. They also have other brands which they might like the flavor of better. I hope they feel better soon.

Our entire family just got over the stomach virus thing and it was HORRIBLE. They would drink pedialyte the first day and after that they refused. Have you tried water? Our doc said if nothing else to give them a little bit of water. He also suggested popsicles or using a syringe to get them to take in the pedialyte. He also said that most kids he knows prefers the pedialyte that has no flavor over the fruity kind (but we couldn't find it in our small town). I hope it is a short-lived thing.

We had that a few weeks back and OMGoodness it was awful! My girls are also tiny and Ava lost 2 pounds. She ate popscicles but not real well. and I could not get her to drink pedialyte at all. one thing that worked was a cup with a straw - she would drink from a straw esp. if it was "daddy's" cup! he always drinks soda and the girls LOVE his drinks (normally they only get a sip or 2 but in this case it worked like a charm!). I fixed "daddy" a cup of Sprite and she would sip on that.

bless your hearts I hope you all feel better very soon!
