Bad mommy of the day

So, I'm downstairs throwing a load of laundry in the washer - Maya starts screaming at the top of the stairs (she is perfectly capable of walking down the stairs). So, I say "Maya, just come down the stairs". She is crying and carrying on upstairs. I think it is because she wants to be carried down the stairs or just didn't want me to go downstairs. (very common occurrences that cause screaming lately) I finally get done with the laundry (not that long) and go back up the stairs. By now, she has tears running down her face and is saying "spider, spider" - and there is this little spider running down the hallway. Never before has she been scared of spiders, but I've probably scarred her for life since I didn't respond right away. Now for the rest of the day, any little bit of anything on the floor has started waterworks and "spider, spider" cries.

I guess she has "cried wolf" enough times that I didn't go right to her - one of us has learned a lesson (and it's not the 2 year old!)

aww poor thing!! You're not a bad mommy, I've done that as well. You hear whining and screaming and crying all day long for days at a time, you just assume that it's the same ole, same ole.
    ICK I hate spiders too!

Oh, poor little thing! I don't think you did anything wrong in your reaction though. Teach her how to be a hard core little spider killer! A girl should be able to do that for herself. :)

Aaaawwww  momma! It does break your heart when you discover they actually needed you, but you just thought they were playing drama queen. I have a bit of drama queen here. I've done it myself (not gone running when she screams) because she does it so often.

With toddlers, there is SO much drama all the time that you are totally not to blame for this! Pick me up, carry me, cater to my every whim as I change my mind 10x a minute... It's OK, you didn't do anything wrong!

    She will be fine.
I had a similar thing the other night after my girls were supposed to be asleep. Sydney came downstairs where DH and I were working out to tell us that Dani needed us. She tried to play in the basement first, so we told her to go upstairs to go to bed. When DH and I were finished working out, we came upstairs and Sydney came downstairs again. Said the same thing that Dani need us. This time when I asked why she said her finger is stuck. I went upstairs and Dani was just sitting on the floor with her hand stuck in the doll house fold. Not crying or anything, in fact I still thought she was playing, till I lifted the fold of the dollhouse and dani moved her thumb out and it was all red.

I would have done the exact same thing as you! Hopefully she'll forget about it in a few days.
