Hello everyone, I've been a member for a little while, however this is my first post.
I am 27 weeks today w/ mo di boys. I have a terrible cough along with nasal/chest congestion, and coughing up yellow stuff ( I know this is gross).
During my peri meet today, I asked what I can take and the peri said Benadryl, but not Sudafed. Then I called my OB and they said take Sudafed? I'd like to get some sleep tonight, but am worried about what I take and worried that I might take something that will negatively affect the boys. Any advise?
Has anyone had a bad cold/cough during pregnancy and did you take anything? Thanks!

I have heard both are ok as long as the Sudafed does not have the phenylepherine ingredient in it. I never had a cold but I did have allergies pretty bad and I did take Benadryl with my last pregnancy as well as this one. I don't think it will help your cold symptoms but it should help you get some rest. I hope you are feeling better :hug99:

I used Tylenol and saline nasal spray. I hope you feel better soon!

I was told Benadryl for both sleep & the cough/cold. I was on bedrest while having Bronchitis @ about 27 weeks & my Dr. was so worried that my coughing would break my water, that they put me on Vicodin for almost a week. It helped my cough a ton & also made me sleep "like a baby." I'd probably listen to the Peri over the OB. Good luck!

My OB always said that any cough drops were fine & so was regular Sudafed. It didn't do a lot for me, but I used it anyway. I hope it works for you--being sick during a pregnancy sucks!!

My OB told me Robitussin DM and Tylenol Sinus or Dayquil. Worked like a charm!!! Could not have gotten through that nasty cold without those. It helped me to still be able to work--it was that bad.

    Hope you feel better soon!

Plain Sudafed (with no letters after it) is fine to take during pregnancy. Hope you feel better. :hug99:

I had the same problem with both pregnancies. My doctor prescribed Sudafed. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Like pps...regular sudafed (behind the counter) or the tylenol sinus products are fine. So is benadryl and you can take tylenol pm to help you sleep.

Thank you all for the great feedback. I've asked m DH to buy some Sudafed (no initials) and Benadryl.. just in case.
