My son has bad breath. He brushes his teeth in the morning and at night (we held and supervise that process) and we have recently started using mouthwash and he still has bad breath. Any idea on how to get rid of it? Or is this a sign of another problem? DH says he has always had stinky breath, but I feel that it has gotten much worse over the last month or so.

Could post nasal drip from allergies be making it worse?

I was thinking post-nasal drip too!

Also, do you brush his tongue at all? What has the dentist said?

Does he ever complain of a stomach ache? I was thinking acid reflux.

I would say possibly acid reflux, post nasal drip or tonsils stones (bacteria build up/hard chunks and they smell horrible).

    tonsil stones

I hadn't even considered post nasal drip and that it could cause bad breath. He does have allergies and it started about the time it got warm here, so I think that might be it. I am going to start giving him the allergy meds the Dr recommended and see if that helps. Thank you for the suggestions.

I agree with all of the above, my son has year round allergies, and we just had his tonsils/adenoids removed this fall. Sometimes his breath is pretty horrible despite brushing twice a day.

Took DS to the doctor last week and he has a sinus infection, so he is on antibiotics. The doctor also gave us a prescription for nasal spray for his allergies which seems to be helping as well. His breath is so much better already. Thanks for the advice.
