After putting it off as long as I could, I've finally moved the girls up a size in diapers. We use Luvs, always have, with hardly any problems whatsoever. Carly has since developed a bad bad rash on her little toot-toot. (sorry) But it's not like any other diaper rash. Usually if she gets a little red, I can apply Desitin and within no time, it's gone. And she may give me a little fuss, I'm sure it burns or something... BUT this time, after moving up a size in diapers, it's almost like a welping rash and it doesn't bother her when I clean her. And it's not going away with Desitin. Is she having an allergic reaction to the SAME brand of diaper we've always used? Please help! Thanks in advance!!!

BTW, haven't visited TS in a very long while. I started back to work so I don't have the internet time that I once had. Miss you guys and miss all the encouraging words that you all have and especially seeing the pictures that you all post of your LO's!! :)

May be a yeast infection. Here's a little article on it. If that's what you think it is, I just applied monistat cream to it and let them go without a diaper for a little bit after every change to keep them nice and dry when my girls had it and it cleared right up. However, you may feel more comfortable taking her to a doc and having something prescribed. It will go away fairly quickly once you get something for it.

two other tricks to try for bad rash......
    1. sprinkle same baking soda in her diaper. it will help with the moisture.
    2. milk of magnesia on a rag and wipe her bottom with it an dlet it dry for a few minutes. i don't know why but that has worked for us.

I agree with PP's...it could be a yeast infection and if it is not, I used milk of magnesia and that helped my DD get rid of some nasty diaper rashes. Good luck!

when I went from Pampers Swaddlers to Pampers Cruisers my kids developed NASTY rash and we had to switch to Huggies full time...so yes they can develop a reaction to the same diapers they previously wore! Hope she's feeling better soon!

My dd suddenly developed a wicked rash for weeks, she'd been using huggies since birth, and she was 10 months old when she got it. After several trips to the pedi, nystatin cream for a yeast infection, multiple diaper rash creams, baby powder (cornstarch), yogurt, oatmeal baths...etc etc etc I switched her to pampers, and the rash cleared up in days. So yes they can suddenly develop a rash to the diapers they've been using.

But i agree with getting her checked by a pedi, our dd did end up having a yeast rash as well and the nystatin cream, more yogurt in her diet and oatmeal baths cleared it up very fast!

I have never had luck with Desitin for actual full-on rashes. If a yeast infection is ruled out, I would suggest Triple Paste ointment. You can buy it over the counter. It is REALLY thick and you slather it. I think the makers of it are the folks who make Aquafor.
