We just got one of those little plastic back yard pools. I was just wondering what others do for diapering when using the pool. I have swim diapers for when we go to public pools, but they are really expensive and I hate to use them when we're just playing in our own back yard. Do you put them in their suits without a diaper and just take your chances? Do you leave them in their regular diaper? Do you use a swim diaper?

We go in our pool all the time, and it really depends what we use, it seems different every day. If I think they will be out a long time I used the swim diaper, if its just quick, then I leave a regular diaper on, and if they have just recently pooped (therefore I am not expecting a poop accident) then I sometimes let them go naked. The area where mine swim is shaded so we dont have to worry about swim suits for sun protection. we also have reusable swim diapers (cloth inside and plastic-type outside), and sometimes I use these as well.

I use the swim diapers, I would love to be able to find the reusable ones somewhere. DD has a bathing suit that has swim diaper with it.

I don't even change my girls to play with the little pool. I don't actually make them get in the pool; I just put their bath toys in the pool and they walk around it and splash around.

I totally understand what you're saying. Swim diapers are expensive. Mine twinadoos are finally pt'd but if I were you, I would probably leave a regular diaper on them. . . but they absorb A LOT so you might end up letting them go with no diaper at all.

Something I learned here a while ago is that the swim diapers are reusable (if they have not pooped in them). We washed them out in the sink and hung to dry and they could be used 4 or 5 times each. Someone on here said they could go in the washer but I didn't try that. In their own little pool I didn't worry too much unless I thought one was due for a poop. If an accident happened in the pool it was no different then in the bathtub--we fished it out, dumped the pool water and rinsed pool with bleach.

    Interesting. Thanks for the tip.

We just leave their regular diapers on for the little pool or for sprinkler play. :)

I got these things in a bag of handme downs and wasn't sure what they were at first. They are made by IPlay. They are cloth swim diapers! They are terrycloth inside and some sort of waterproof material outside and look like speedos. We will be using them this summer so we don't have the expense of swim diapers or the weight/sagginess of regular diapers. You could probably get away with buying some and using them again next summer too if you get a slightly larger size.

We have some reusable cloth diapers and I strongly recommend them. They are the same price as one box of disposables and can be used indefinitely. I had to order them online, but still felt it was worthwhile!

We use reusable swim diapers usually. And we certainly don't MAKE our kids get in the pool, they want to go in and play, for sure.
