My oldest DD started Kindergarten this week, and she has been SO grouchy at home, not only in the evenings, but during the day today too. I'm sure she's tired as she's adjusting to her routine, but please tell me others have experienced this, too?

Definitely! I think it's pretty normal for most kids, and especially for kindergarteners. It's a big adjustment, plus the getting up early and needing to be attentive all day can easily tire kids out. Just make sure she's getting to bed at a good time and eating properly and I'm sure within a week or so, things will even out and she'll be less grouchy.

That is actually one of the reasons our district wants to go to full day Kindergarten. Because the 1st graders are having a hard time adjusting to the full day schedule. They would rather have the kids make the adjustment in K, where by NJ law, they have to have a rest for the 1st half of the school year, and then in 1st they are good to go. If you can keep her active in the afternoon, she will get through it quicker (I know, sounds like it should be the opposite)

we haven't started yet, but this is normal.
It's a new routine and can be really overwhelming emotionally.

Yep, perfectly normal. Just takes time to work into a routine.
