I have 2 really picky eaters. There honestly isn't much they will eat and if I find something they like, that doesn't mean it's going to work tomorrow. They refuse most fruits, veggies and pasta amount a ton of other stuff.

I had a pedi suggest to just take away their food if they didn't eat and eventually they will be so hungry that they'll just eat it no matter what it was. Well, that didn't work and after 2 days I realized that I just can't sit there and starve my children no matter what she said.
I've switched Dr's to one that told me that it could be a sensory thing and any kind of fruit/veggie is better than nothing...

    So...

I've gone back to having them split a jar of fruit and veggies before every meal and it's working great - they love it in fact.

Has anyone else had issues with this???

I can soooo relate to this! My boys (20 mo.) are sooo picky! Their little sister, 10 mo. will eat anything I give her! I buy baby food too so they will get more veggies & meat. I've never had such picky eaters and both of them at that! They do love fruit and cheese & yogurt but as far as trying to get them to eat the dinners we do, ha! Breakfast isn't a problem either except they hate eggs! I've tried many times and will continue. (sigh) Crazy huh!

I'm going through this right now with Lorien. She went from being a great eater and eating pretty much all table foods to baby food mostly. It is the only thing I can really get her to eat consitently. She will eat most fruits though but I have been finding myself buying A LOT of baby food lately. It's very frustrating cause as you said, one day she may like something and the next day she doesn't. As I said in a post recently, I HATE MEAL TIMES!!!

Wow, I'm glad I'm not alone on this one.

I think I would still get an EI evaluation on potential food texture issues, just to be safe. I know a 2.5 year old who is still eating baby food, he had texture issues but his mom chose not to treat them.

We still give baby food occasionally at 19 months. It wasn't a "regression" for us because we never gave it up! But both of my DDs still looooove baby food green veggies (I have no idea why!) -- and since one of them in particular eats almost nothing else that's green, it seems sensible to me to give her a jar sometimes. Think of it as green applesauce -- even older kids eat applesauce! ;)

FWIW, I'm pretty sure my DDs don't have any texture issues (they eat all sorts of other things, of various textures). They just like baby food.

Minette, now that you say that, I'm not sure it's a texture thing with my boys either - they do eat a lot of other stuff like chicken nuggets, fries, crackers, peas sometimes, baby carrots sometimes only with a certain seasoning. A lot of the time I have to "force" the first bite because they won't even try something and when they do finally try it, they might keep eating!

    I think they're just picky.

My boys are 22 months and for meals, they still seem to prefer jarred food to my food.

They used to eat everything we gave them - or at least try it. Now they won't eat chicken, or fruits and veggies. They will eat bananas. It seems any tablefood they eat has to be with cheese on toast. If I give pasta, it has to be mixed with a jar of stage 3 lasagna or something. Drives me nuts!

I've heard that toddlers sometimes need 15-20 presentations of a new food before they will accept it, so I guess keep trying. I also read somewhere to sprinkle veggies with some parm cheese for added flavor. Who knows!
