Back pain while sitting

I work at an office job where I sit at a desk most of the day. I'm having quite a bit of back pain and it's driving me nuts. I already have a pillow behind my back and today I grabbed a box to use as a footstool. It helps a bit. I try to get up and walk around as much as possible (who knew running to the bathroom all the time would be a good thing? :p ) I've been doing some prenatal yoga at home at night and I would like nothing so much as to just drop down and do some cat/cow exercises right in my office, but of course, that is not really possible!

Any other ideas? How did you deal with your back pain?

I used to sometimes elevate me feet on the trash can (empty, turned upside down); I think you could walk to the bathroom and do your stretches there in the stall (esp. if it's a bathroom with a lock on it with only 1 stall!).

It's super hard, though. That's one reason I convinced my boss to let me work at home 3 days a week and I'd come in for about 5 hours the last day.

I have my own room in the office so I would close the door when the pain got too bad and pull out a blanket and lie on the floor reading and marking documents. My colleagues would knock before coming in and we actually got so comfortable with this that we would all end up sitting on the floor and discussing cotracts. I do not work in an informal environment but everyone knew I had a very difficult pregnancy (I ended up working from home on bedrest) and was thankful for every day I could come in and get wok done. I also brought my own easy chair into the office and held long conference calls from its comfort.

I know I was very lucky in this regard and that a single office is a luxury these days. But if you do have a single office just hang a "do not disturb"-sign on the door, close it and get a few minutes of stretching or lying down or whatever helps. If you don't an electric blanket on the lowest setting on your back might help too.

    GL!

I was a very restless sitter - I was constantly adjusting myself in my chair. What was the most comfy office chair before I got pregnant was suddenly a hideous torture device! I would lean back, sit upwards, the step stool under my feet was awful at times and what I needed others! I stood up, sat down a lot! But the only thing that was great was 5:00 when I got off and went home to lay down. Eventually they let me leave at 2 and then at 28 weeks I was put on bed rest which did not hurt my feelings!

I share an office with a very understanding coworker, so maybe I will sit on the floor and stretch, as some of you suggested! I never even thought about bringing a heating pad in, either - that would be easy enough. Thank you for your help!

It sounds like you are doing all the right things, I just had to get up and walk around when ever possible.
    Hang in there!
