well the good news is the babies are measuring the same size, etc. the bad news is baby a had an echogenic focus on his heart. it is a soft marker for downs and there are no other markers - my risk from the nuchal is 1 in 1000 - i'm upset and sad - i was hoping that there wouldnt be anything for me to worry about...i go for my genetic u/s on 3/23.

has anyone else had this and had it go away?

[IMG] Any time our test results come back with a big 'ol MAYBE, it is always so disheartening. This can be such a stressful ride, but with all these tests out there now, it can certainly add to it.

My SIL and brother faced this same issue with their son. In a follow up u/s, everything was confirmed as normal. And he is just fine. I don't know if that story helps, but just wanted to share my personal story that had a happy ending.

i'm trying to stay positive and it certainly helps to hear happy endings - being that the boys are identical and only one has it, hopefully it will disappear - but you're right - there are so many maybes and the docs are right there with us in not knowing....

Hi, I had the same thing with twin A. I went for an u/s with the peri dr and she said it really wasn't a good marker of down syndrome and there was debate about taking it off the list of markers. She said they don't usually do anything else when they find one unless there are other markers too. So don't worry, I'm sure all is fine. I didn't have an amnio because my chances of having a child with down syndrom were 1 in a 1000 like you and the echogenic focus didn't increase it to the point where they would suggest amnio.
    Hope this helps

    Hi,

I had two ultrasounds saying that my twin b had an echogenic focus on his heart. They sent me off to Childrens Hospital in Boston and guess what..... They found nothing at all. We couldn't believe it. We had 2 seperate ultrasounds including a level 2 saying the baby had a focus and then nothing. I had a follow up in Boston a month after my initial appt in Boston and still nothing. I remember how I felt when they told me and I remember how bad it was having to wait to find anything out. You and your family will be in my prayers.

I just had the same thing happen.

They saw the spot at the 20 week sonogram on Twin A. My OB called it a calcium deposit, said not to worry at all and sent me for a Level II (she never mentioned downs).

At the Level II, the sonographer was the one that mentioned it being a marker for downs. Thank God dh and I had researched the spot, or I would've been completely shocked when she said this. When the peri reviewed the u/s, he didn't mention downs either, just said that the babies looked really healthy and not to worry about the spot.

I've had two more u/s since then and w/ a different tech. I'm 25 weeks and the spot is still there. The tech said that they see so many of those spots that it will soon become abnormal to NOT have one.
Neither baby showed any other marker for downs, so I can honestly say I'm not worried about it at this point.

If it wasn't for that one sonographer (and the internet) I wouldn't have ever known it was a marker in the first place. I also read that some doctors aren't even telling patients about the spots now until they have more evidence that downs might be present.

    Hope this helps!
