I'm going to start the boys on veggies this week. I was planning on having them share a container... but if they don't finish it in one feeding, do I have to throw it away, or can I reuse it? I know that with BM and formula, it has to be discarded, but I wasn't sure if it was the same with babyfood. Seems awfully wasteful if so...

    Thanks!

If you feed directly from the container- I believe it should be pitched. (Due to saliva contaminating the veggies). I pour out what I need into another bowl and then I save the remainder of the container for the next day. I haven't had any issues yet doing it that way- except for one more bowl to clean :)

Technically you are supposed to throw it out if you feed them directly from the container but I have kept them overnight in the fridge before, as long as they aren't sick or what not.

The container will tell you exactly how long you can keep it, usually a day or two, depending on what it is. Like pp said, probably depends on if it was eaten directly from the container or not. HTH :) .

I make my own baby food and freeze it in ice cube trays so that they are super-small servings. Even if you use jarred baby food, you can always put maybe half a jar in a bowl to feed them, and then freeze or fridge the other half. I rarely feed the boys the same thing two days in a row, so my freezer is full of baby food!!!

BTW, one thing I do, if I am steaming veggies for my own dinner, I separate out some and puree for the boys, spoon it into an icecube tray and stick it in the freezer, and then I have baby food ready to go!

I found that it was less wasteful at the beginning to take baby food out of the containers. That way you dont have to worry and you dont have to throw it out. I was also mixing in the baby food with the cereal so I just used the cereal bowl.

Hi Becky, I ditto all the PP's. Pour what you need into another bowl, put the jar in the fridge, and use it next time. But I also wanted to let you know that you can save a bottle of breastmilk for the next feeding. So, if you are pumping and have a hard time, like I do, I know how difficult it is to throw it out, but you don't necessarily have to. Here's a link. Re-using expressed breastmilk. Have fun starting the solids.
