One of the babies had a really bad diaper rash that was not responding to anything, took him to the doctor today and it turns out he had a yeast infection. I didn't know they could even get those! Babies really should come with some kind of handbook. It just looks terribly uncomfortable - bright red, scaly, flaking, gets really bad when he has a BM. But he hasn't let out so much as a peep. He's just the most laid back baby in the world, even when he has a raging yeast infection! Anyone else's baby ever have a yeast infection? How fast does the prescription cream work?

Oh wow!! Definitely a laid back child if it didn't seem to bother him.

Zackary had a really bad rash and they prescribed him the Nystatin cream, and it cleared up within 2-3 days.

It'll clear up pretty fast. Next time you notice it, you can spray Lotrimin (athlete's foot spray) on it & the spray will clear it up!
    Good luck,

Mine had it...Lotrimin foot (antifungal) cream works great and you don't have to go to the doctor to get it.

BUT...be very careful!!!! If the baby for some reason (and it happens) touches the infection and then put his/her hand in its mouth...then you get thrush which is very painful for the baby and hard to get rid of.

Mine have had it. Also Thrush is just yeast in the mouth.

Aisley came down with thrush/yeast a day before her scheduled release from NICU. I was so scared they would want to keep her for it! She had Nystatin both topical for her bottom and drops for her mouth. I'll tell you what, it took WEEKS for that $#!+ to heal! Poor baby, I felt so bad for her, even though it didn't seem to bother her too badly. I hope your little guy gets over it soon; just be vigilant about using the meds!

Sarah gets yeast infections a lot. I guess she is more sensitive or something. I have never tried any prescription cream, I always use monistat cream for about a week and it clears it right up within just a few applications.

Something that took the redness away and seemed to sooth her was a vinegar bath. I did it in the sink before their bathtime (other wise you have a baby that smells like Long John Silvers all day, LOL). Anyway I filled the sink up (to where it would cover her to the belly button sitting up) and added 1/4 cup of white vinegar and let her soak for about 5 minutes. It really worked well.

Then after the real bath, we used the athletes foot cream night and day and it cleared up in about 4 days! HTH!

Both of mine had the same thing. It didn't seem to bother either one of them. Anyway, once I got the cream from the doctor it cleared up right away.

One DD had a "yeasty" diaper rash while in the NICU. They used a prescription cream (not sure which one) and it looked tons better within a day or two. GL!
