    Hi,

Ive just been worrying a lot the last couple of weeks because my DS wont crawl and screams when I put him on his tummy. as soon as I put him down he rolls himself over right away and kind of lifts himself up and usually wacks his head in the process. We went to the doctor last week and the dr is concerned about the size of his head, and flat so now we have to see a specialist. His brother has been on his belly since about four months and scoots all over but he will only sit up on the floor, he is right up to par with every other milestone but crawling, does anyone else have or had a nine month old that wont crawl or a similar story, I guess Im just looking for someone to make me feel better :(

DD started crawling at 9.5 months... but she was moving around on her tummy at 7 months. How much tummy time has he had? Maybe he'll just always hate it... some babies never crawl, so if it's the only issue I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Sofia does not really crawl. She army crawls sort of. I asked the ped and he said, "Can she get around?" which she can, and he said not to worry. I do know some people w/ twins and they didn't start crawling until like 11 months. Also, some totally skip crawling! I wouldn't worry just yet.

    How big is his head?

My boys just started crawling. I have an OT that comes to work w/ Lucas and we were talking about why Jackson was not crawling and she said that head size has a lot to do w/ it. Jackson has a pretty big head and is just now starting to crawl. I agree w/ pp don't worry about the crawling. You do need to focus on tummy time. Lucas has reflux and always screamed when we put him on his tummy. The OT worked w/ him to get him used to it. She used a safari roller and she also put him on his hands and knees and helped him to rock back and forth. He was crawling in no time. Below is the link for the safari roll. You can also use an exercise ball. GL!

My singleton didn't crawl until he was over 12 months, but once he started, he just took off, he would basically sit there like a lump, some times he would scoot around on his butt, but bascially he didnt really get around on his tummy before than, i had gotten him a PT eval, but they said that he was doing OK even without he crawling, or moving around too much.

I know quite a few babies that crawled very late and some that never crawled. Our peditrician always tells us the milestone is a guideline only. Most I read give most things a 9 month span of when a baby can start something.

My DS did not crawl until he was 10 months. He would slide around and spin to get where he was going. At 12 months, he is standing and starting to cruise. I think some babies will crawl at their own pace or not at all.

I know it is so hard not to worry, but try not to! My two boys JUST started crawling this week and they will be 12 months on January 3rd. They were born 5 weeks early - so even if you factor that in - they still didn't crawl until 10.5 months adjusted. He'll move around when he's ready. And if you are really concerned, it can't hurt to call your pediatrician or your local Early Intervention agency.

I would go with what your pediatrician says, they see the full range of 'typical.' Considering yours were a month early, and they're just 9 months, it sounds like it's in the range of typical development. Mine crawled right at 9 months on the nose and they were full term. I should add that motivation seemed really important with my two. My DD was much more eager to move. We had to 'bribe' my son with things he wanted to get him to take those first little crawling steps :)

Oh and you need to take in to consideration that your were born a month early so they would have until 11 months to be in the normal range.

My DD did not crawl until she was 13.5 months. Give it some time, he'll crawl when he's ready.

Jack didnt start crawling untill he was 10months and Sophie was 11 months. My friends little one didnt crawl at all and when she put him on his front to crawl he used to just lie down and sleep!! He just had no interest in crawling at all. Maybe he just doesnt want to crawl and will go straight to walking x
