I am 29 weeks 5 days, baby A's water broke on Friday, October 3. He is low on fluid, has a somewhat restricted umbilical cord and is smaller than his sister. Today during our ultrasound, the technician spent a lot of time on his chest, drawing circles and measuring the circumfrence. I knew something was not right and later she told me that his chest is measuring small. She pretty much said, "some babies have a small chest and are fine, but..." and never finished the senence or really explained the situation. Both babies are still growing at a steady rate, but he has virtually no fluid left which I think could be compressing his little chest. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Any and all information would be appreciated. I'm wondering about his lung development, if this is a reason we would have to deliver sooner rather than later, if he will have more challenges when he is born...I just don't even know all the quesions to ask.

I am on hospital bed rest and will be until they arrive. My Peri will be by later this evening once he's had a chance to review the ultrasound results, but again, any information would be so appreciated.

    Thank you.

Is it possible that she meant belly circumference? I've never heard them measure the chest. Usually it's head, belly, and limbs. If the belly is small, that would go along with low fluid and small size. It could mean the baby is not growing as fast as they expect. But I've never heard them measure the chest... How would she know what's small and what's not when it's not even a parameter in their charts? I hope your doctor will clarify. Hang in there.
