Are the special baby towels and wash clothes really necessary? I'm working on my registry and it seems like just one more thing to buy that we might not need. Thoughts?

We have some, bt I doubt they are nessacary.. I think any soft towel should do.. It is nice to have a hood though for those tiny wet heads!

We used our hooded towels well up until my boys were 5 and 6.....they loved wearing them...and they were real handy during the summer at the beach and by the pool! They called them their "cape" So I am definately getting some this go around too!

I didn't think they were until I tried to take a wet squirmy baby out of the bath without the help of the hood to keep the towel on her. Now I always use the hooded towels!

Not necessary but convenient for sure.
My daughter is almost 3 and we still use them for her.
I will make sure I have enough for the twins as well.

IMO, no they are not! For one thing, they are usually terrible quality (unless you buy really expensive ones). And the hoods seemed to really tick the babies off! (Ours, at least.)

We did use baby bath towels (and just didn't use the hoods) because someone gave us some really nice ones (think Nordstrom $$$) as a gift. But we didn't use the washcloths until the girls were old enough to eat solid foods and make a huge mess -- and even then, paper towels or regular washcloths would have worked fine.

    Do you sew?
Do you know someone who does?

Buy full size thick towels, cut off a triangle on one corner to then sew back on to make the "hood" of the towel.
This way the towel is nice and thick and plenty warm for your babies and large enough for down the road when they grow so big!

My girls are 14 months and we still use them and I think I will for a while longer.

I never used them with any of my 4. A regular towel and a regular washcloth works just fine for me.

I don't think that they are a must have, but they are nice to have. I used them with my daughter and actually still do since they stay on her head and she can wrap herself up in them now...

I love the hooded towels. I've been using the Pottery Barn nursery towels (the blue hippo and the pink bunny) for months now. They're personalized, and it's all I use. Love those. My oldest has the toddler size, also great. Good quality.

Put them on your registry. I still use them and my twins are almost 2. Now we like the ones that slip over their head, but newborn they ones with a simple hood were good enough. Also, 'baby washclothes' are sometimes softer than regular ones. My DH complains when I use the regular ones that they are too rough.

My MIL made me a bunch of these - they are wonderful. All the cute baby ones are WAY too thin and wouldn't keep my babies warm enough. I gave them all away after the first time I used them.

We loved ours. The girls did too. They were much softer than regular towels and the hoods were great for our winter babies. The washcloths were really nice too.

I found them really helpful in keeping the towel on the babies. I also liked the baby sized washcloths. I found bathing much easier with these than an adult size washcloth. Much easier to control.

I find them to be necessary. My girls calm down once they are bundled up in these...they look sooo cute with just their face showing!! Plus it keeps their heads warm while getting diapered, lotioned, and dressed. I also find that the washcloths are gentler on their skin. Regular washcloths seem to make their skin red...especially when I try to wash under their necks.

    I would suggest registaring them.

Unless they are really thick baby towels skip them. I didnt find they were absorbant enough to dry them, and they didnt keep them warm. Now the facecloths are a good thing to have. My favorite are actually from the dollarstore. hehe.. They are thin so you can get all those little rolls clean.. ;)

I found them very useful for getting out of the bath and getting some of the wet off, then I would wrap them in a regular towel!! so nice but not a necessity for me anyhow

do u know what for me at the begining i did baths right inside the crib using a sponge, baby soap and a bucket;) i had tons of reg old towels and i wrapped my sons in a big fluffy towel; and just quickly dried and dressed them fast--the hoodie towels are cute for pics:) but they arent normally heavy enough so its in and out of the tub fast--I wouldnt JUST get baby towels-adult towels are actually more fluffy and warmer to keep them snuggly-when i did to tub baths i still used adult towels-when u regisiter; be sure u get tons of recieving blankets-they are used for EVERYTHING-swaddling,spit up, cleanups, u name its the best item:)

I like the infant hooded towels...especially the light weight ones. They were nice to cuddle them all up in after bath time. Now, I think the infant robes are a waste of money...JMO. Even now, my girls are 2.5 and we still use the infant wash cloths and we did get them bigger hooded towels...do we need them? No, but they girls love them. One has a duck and the other a frog!
