    Hi everyone.

My 14 month threw up this morning. She also threw up a couple of times on Monday morning. We took to the dr yesterday and said she had another ear infection and just a virus. (Which makes me mad because we were cleared by the ENT on March 1st - she was good and did not need tubes).

Well anyways, she dosen't want to drink anything but milk. Does anyone have suggestions. She does not like any of the pedilyte flavors, water, juice (she will drink but I don't want to give her all that sugar). How much fluid should she be getting.

She gets very upset when she sees her sister eating. Any suggestions on what to feed her or do.

    Thanks for the help.

Obviously the big concern is dehydration. My peds rule of thumb is at least one wet diaper every 8 hours. If not, I'm to take to the er for dehydration. I would let her drink milk if that is what she wants unless it makes her throw up. If she has any type of sore throat with the virus then the milk might soothe her throat. Will she drink juice diluted with lots of water?

As for eating, I would let her if she seems hungry. Try crackers, toast, fruit, yogurt. Hopefully she won't get sick again.

    Hope she feels better soon!

Have you tried giving her pedisure instead of milk? The great thing about pedisure is it doesn't have any lactose in it. Feed her the BRAT diet slowly. Banana, Rice, Applesauce, Toast(or crackers). Mine also like herbal tea(decaf) with honey when they have a sore troat(let it cool to lukewarm and put in sippy.

You can try gatorade. 2 of mine hate pedialyte and the doc said there second choice is gatorade. If she can keep sips of that down for an hour or so then she can have ounces and then try crackers. On another note my girl twin threw up a week ago and she was adamant that I give her food. She screamed and screamed but I was afraid she'd throw up again. Well I was wrong she was over it and hungry. But starting slow is the way to go. And this evening you could try milk again. Very often when mine are vomiting they have to stay off of milk for 24hrs or thtey just start throwing up again.

For food she should probably stick to the BRAT diet (Banana, Rice, Applesauce, Toast).

For drinking you want to make sure she is only taking a little sip each time. If she gulps it down it is mostly likely it is going to come right back up. My pedi recommends staying away from milk. I know you don't want her to have juices but if she keeps it down and is keeping her hydrated-- you might want to try it.

As the pp said, if she is not having any wet diapers then she is not getting enough fluids. If her skin starts to get dry and she starts to look lathargic those are also signs of dehydration and she will need to go to the DR/ER for an IV.

I hope she gets better soon. [IMG]

When mine are sick, I will give them anything they will drink (well not Koolaid or pop) but juice certainly. It is a huge fight with my son to get him to drink when he is sick. What we do with juice is water it down like 2 parts water to 1 part juice.

I would try giving her some rice, When my newphew was really sick, not keeping down anything he ate, my sister would give him rice and that seemed to stay down.

you could try lactaid milk since it is lactose free
