    Hi Everyone!

I live in MI and have 9 week old twins and I'm wondering what the going rate is to pay a baby sitter any suggestions?

    Thanks!

The only babysitters I've had is family or friends so I've never actually paid anything. I would guess that it varies greatly depending on where you live and if you're talking about hiring a teenager for a couple of hours at night while they are sleeping versus someone to keep them for you on a regular basis.

My daughter babysits for us & I usually give her $20 for the evening if they are going to be sleeping, more if she has to feed them or get them in bed. From what I have seen with Olivia, who babysits for several people, the going rate varies widely these days! $5 an hour isn't uncommon for just one child so :pardon: .

This is one reason I haven't left the boys with a sitter. That and my IL's live close enough that we don't have to worry about it. I think I would pay $40-50 for a night (7-11pm). It makes it not seem worth it for us to go out and spend another $50 going out. $100 can buy a lot of diapers!!

I live in MI, and while I haven't had a sitter, I do have a nanny that I pay $11/hour. I'd think a sitter would be less because you're not expecting them to do all the stuff the nanny does (laundry, neatening toys, teaching, etc.).

    Hope this helps!

We just hired our first babysitter last month and she's a nanny to a set of 9 week old twins right now. She charges 14$ an hour. I LOVE that she's had so much experience with multiples, this was a huge thing for me!
I also agree that the price does depend on where you live.

I pay our babysitter $10 an hour but she only comes over after the babies have gone to bed so she's really just keeping an ear and eye out on things while we're gone.

Great question!! We'll have my cousin start watching our girls in the mornings while i'm at work. I'm going to offer $10/hour which I think is the going rate where I live. She'll just be babysitting, no other stuff. wow - $14-18/hour is scary!!

we pay our friends 15 yo 10.00/hour. She had lots of experiance and taken classes. I think its reasonable since they may eat once and then go down.

Depending on the sitter, I have paid between $5 and $10 an hour.

we have a gal who watches the girls in the evening (after the girls' bedtime) when we go out & we pay $40/evening. if we were going to be out quite late, i expect we'd offer a premium.

during the day my MIL usually watches the girls & she won't accept any money from us. in the fall, when i go back to work, my sister will be taking over some of the daytime childcare & we've offered her $10/hour. i think for a professional nanny in our area we'd be looking more in the $18 - $20/hour range for live-out.

We have a sitter that I use mostly during the day, once a week for a few hours so I can get out and do errands/appointments etc. She also occasionally sits for us in the evening. We pay 15/hour, but she's a college grad w/ her teaching credential and a ton of experiance, so she's worth it.

I actually nannied a few years back for two little boys 14 months apart, and I got paid 15/hour, so I think I'm getting a good deal now--no inflation!

We pay babysitters $10/hour, PLUS we leave them money for pizza or something for dinner which is usually an additional $20. We pay our nanny $12/hour.

The way I look at it is the kids are usually up for about an hour, then they are down for bed for the night so the sitter is there and responsible, but has her own time to herself when 7:30pm rolls around.
