Baby positioning question

I was under the impression that way the ultrasound looked was the way the babies were positioned. Mostly because when I had early ultrasounds, Baby B was really low on my left side, and they had a hard time finding him. So they always had the wand smashing into my hipbone on my left side. Well, then yesterday at the peri appointment, they were like, Oh, A is on the left ... all the measurements were consistent (B is bigger ... so I know they didn't have the babies mixed up). Plus they did tons of measurements on both babies, and they were all over my belly with the little wand.

So ... is the way the ultrasound picture shows up how they are positioned, or is it reversed? I'm totally confused.

I think it really depends on what kind of u/s... I think trans/vag u/s gets reversed. I'm assuming at this point they aren't catching both babies on the same screen for a photo anyway.. but they usually label which baby is A and which is B...but if they are the same gender they might still swap a few times before birth..I don't think there is a sure-fire way to prevent that unless they really vary in weight or size..or until they get "stuck" in whatever position they will stay in. the best thing to do is to ask your u/s tech next time you go for an u/s... get her or him to point out their positions on your actual belly...then it'll be clarified for you!!

Not sure that this is much help, but they do move around while they have lots of space.. mine are squished now and stay as the "right twin" and "left twin"

BUT at my 4D ultrasound, she told my not to acknowledge where the wand was.. cause when it was on the left side she was looking at the right baby..

they "mixed" my babies up too. The only way I knew was because its b/g. The girl in 2 ultrasounds was referred to as "baby a" and the boy as "baby b" then in the last ultrasound the boy was "baby a" and the girl was "baby b".
I asked the same question on the board a couple weeks ago and some women said that the lower baby is baby a so that just means one was lower than the other!
Possibly because my babygirl flipped feet first and my baby boy flipped head first! haha

For mine, they have been the same as the screen (not reversed) they always tell me before they do any measurements.

Thanks! I'll ask at my next appointment. I know baby A has an anterior placenta, and B has a posterior, so they can tell them apart that way.

Something funny- When I was in the hospital over the weekend, I had a few ultrasounds and every time, the babies were in totally different positions. I was on Mag and didn't feel much movement, but I guess they had their ways. My girl (A) is generally on my left, and my boy is on the right, but they were just all over the place. head down, breech, transverse - - I saw it all!! I had never had so many U/S in such a short time span to see how much they are capable of changing it around inside!!
