Baby Nightmares?

Is it possible for babies to have nightmares? My DD woke up screaming (and she is NOT a screamer) a high pitched shrill at 1am last night. As soon as I'd pick her up she was fine. I'd walk her around and then lay her back down and ten minutes later, it was the same thing. This went on until 3:30AM when we finally just brought her into bed with us where she slept until 8am just fine.

Maybe I'm grasping here, but the only other time she screamed like that was when she got her 2 month shots last Friday. I was wondering if she could be dreaming about that when she was screaming like that?

    Thanks!

One of my girls does that sometimes, and the ped. says she is/was too little for nightmares. I have no idea what else it could be, though. For us, it will come and go in spells. She'll do that for a couple of days, and then not for months, and then it comes back for a few days. I think it happens when there is more going on in the house, either she is really tired, or can tell there is excitement around (it happened a little around Christmas...) Other than freaking me out a little, no one is any worse for wear, and they happen less as she is getting older.

    Good luck!

When they really young I don't think they ever did... but more recently they have.

My dd did that & I thought she was also having some nasty dreams. Then I found out it was just gas all along. I make sure she has a good burp & then she's fine. No more crying during her sleep.

YES it is possible b/c DS has them sometimes. His eyes aren't open and he just starts screaming in the middle of the night. All I do is make him wake up and hold him for a few minutes and put him back down. He stops screaming once he is awake. Of course I've had to take him to bed with us b/c he had several that night and he slept better with me. I don't know what causes it but most of my friends' babies have them too. Maybe they are dreaming about their shots! Poor babies!!

Lauren went through something like that around 6 months old. She would cry out, but wouldn't stop when I picked her up and it was around the same time each night. It took her about 20 minutes to get over the "spell". I hope it passes soon enough. :hug99:

My ds was that way. Come to find out it only happened when he had milk before bed. My father was the same way. It still happens to him.
