Dh keeps telling me that we don't need the baby monitor anymore. I can hear them in our room if they are crying, but not loudly. I am not sure that I would wake up. However, they have started "talking/babbling" to each other a lot from 2-3am. They don't cry, but they wake me up and I can't go back to sleep until they do. If I didn't have the monitor on I wouldn't hear them. I am just so scared something will happen and I won't hear it. What age did you or do you plan on not using a baby monitor and how far away is the nursery from your room?

i have the same fears as you and will probably use the monitor until they are out of cribs and able to come and get me if they need me. our nursery is across the house from our bedroom and while i can hear them if they are really crying i like the reassurance of knowing that i can hear them before they get to that.

i haven't discussed this with my DH but he will probably feel the same as yours, i don't think dads have the same level of anxiety about this kind of thing as moms do.

We still use ours. We have a loud fan blowing in our room (for DH's white noise) and I can't hear the boys on the other side of the house. I also need it to hear them at naptime. We will probably keep ours on for much longer.

our room is right next to the babies' room... so we don't have a monitor on... we have white noise in the nursery and a fan and their door shut and our door shut. we hear when they fuss loud & clear... but we probably wouldn't hear babbling enough to wake us up. we have the monitor on in the family room so that we can hear them above the tv when we are in there... if they were on the other side of the house it would be more of an issue. i hope you can find a solution that works!

I would turn it down if they are waking you with their babbling. If they cry it will be much louder. I still have a monitor in my older DD's room.

I still use one for the boys' room (and we have a separate one for baby) because the boys' room is at the other end of the house. I just turn it down very low so I don't hear little murmurs/chit chat but can hear when they are really upset/crying. My boys are still in cribs too...if that matters. I think once we move to big boy beds we'll get rid of the monitor.

My first DD I stopped using one when she was almost 3. My second DD I didn't stop until she was 4, she always seamed to be the needy one in the middle of the night. As for the twins I don't know how long we will keep using one.

We still used the twin's monitor when Evan came. I Just had the volume turned down so all I could see is the light. We could hear them if they were to cry and then see too, but we didn't hear every little noise. So they were about 3 when we used the monitor for Evan.

I just recently stopped using the monitors for overnight but still use them for naps. I agree with what others have suggested and turning it down a bit in hopes that you'll sleep through the talking but wake up when they cry. :good:
