I outgrew my Bella Band and Prental Cradle, and the maternity back support I have is so bulky I'd have to wear a tent to hide it (so not my style!). SO at the suggestion of my peri's office, I just ordered a Baby Hugger (http://www.babyhugger.com). It looks pretty ridiculous, but I'm in so much pain when I walk or stand that I will try anything.

So.... has anyone else tried this one? Does it work??

I haven't tried it but it does look ridiculous! You are supposed to wear the same underwear everyday for the rest of your pregnancy? I mean yes you can order more underwear for it but geez...you think they would include a few pairs!

Please let us know how it works for you. I am going to need something to help support my giant belly soon. Obviously people must have given your peri's office some good feedback if they recommended it?

I know, those underwear are crazy, but at the same time, I can see how it would be more supportive than just a band under the belly like most of the supports offer. I will let you know how they work for me...

It's funny I saw this post just as I realized I have the babyhugger contraption.

They have one huge support piece that goes down the front, a large elastic piece that you see in the picture, it connects to the velcro of the front support piece and the back part you crisscross behind your back and connect in the lower belly area. Great support already. But you can also have a second strap of support for your belly, it velcros onto the other one (where the pieces come down your sides) and it gives a very good extra lift. Then they have two lengths of support that go down like a one half of a v from your sides, which you will get 2 more straps to put through the loops that are on top of the V and will velcro onto the first major piece (one half in front and the other around your shoulder blade).

And sadly for me, the shoulder straps DO show if I'm wearing a wrong shirt but thankgoodness for colder weather I can get away with wearing things that cover more. But with just the first part, you feel good support, with all of them connected you feel like you could run a marathon and your abdomen and back won't hurt.

But if you have whiplash problems or get tension headaches, you will find you can't wear them every day of every week. Just when you have to be up and about and/or out of the house.

I did get a second pair of panties and it's not a big pain if you wash the other pair lightly and let them hang dry (never looked at how to clean them, but this is easiest for me) for use the next day. I DON'T wear this without panties underneath though, that's gross. lol :p Besides, if any of you remember those shirt/suits that used to be popular and it was a snug shirt that connected by snaps in the panty area? it's like that too, but it's velcro and it won't be comfortable without something underneath... I get poked by it anyways if I didn't pull the extra cloth from the front, in front of it to cover the pokey velcro edges. You can pull that back part up as much as you want to get a better fit, but definitely be sure to pull the extra front fabric down and not leave it up and folded under as you will get poked! lol

But all in all, I love mine. I love that I can go for walks and run errands and not have to hold my belly up when my abdomin and back and hips can't handle the strain any more. They also helped move the babies into a better position (as even spinningbabies.com had mentioned somewhere on their site) that my body can handle.

The only down side for me is that I can't feel the babies kicking as hard as they used to because all the support and stuff mutes them a bit. Oh, they still kick and you can still feel it as well as others, but they have something more to kick against.

Thanks for all the info, Bernice! I did order the extra support piece you mentioned, as well as extra underwear for it, and figured I'd still wear my own underneath. I should have it in a day or two... I sure hope it helps!!

I saw your beautful pregnant belly on your website and you so look like you could use it! I hope it helps you out too! I cant believe that we still have so far to go, thank goodness you are closer to them arriving!! For me, I carry extra weight and yes it's on my tummy too... so I think that's why i needed the support sooner - the weight of the babies and my belly weight just wasn't good for my abdominal muscles...

It arrived and I have to say I about cried when I tried it on. It's hideous and requires me to wear a frumpy shirt vs. my usual cute fitted pregnancy shirts, but I will say that it has made a tremendous difference in my belly/back pain, so I guess I will have to sacrifice my style for the support. :) My only issue is once I undo the velcro in the crotch to go potty, I can't reach around my big belly to re-velcro it!

I know... It looks like a contraption and I'm always moving my shirt around to hide it. Wear it only when you need it so you still feel like the beautiful mom you are and NOT FRUMPY!!! I'm so trying not to lament the whole style for support thing too... I've even gone to wearing tennies all the time because proper foot support also relieves backpain. But they don't match everything I have left to wear and top that with the fact that I only have white sports socks... some days I just don't look in the mirror. lol

And I can't reach the velcro either!! I've actually thought of moving the whole crotch stuff to one side and going but then Im reminded of past efforts to do so with bathing suits and ... you know. It's like we need to wear something on our thigh for it to stick to while we go potty. sometimes I pull it way down after taking it off and then when I'm done, I get up and then sit back down so I'm sitting on it and can grab it from there. Or what about taking it off but holding onto that piece until you need to put it back on?

I so wish things were simpler. . . And we are only going to get bigger so it's not. *sigh* <_<

Well, as much as I hate how it looks and as hard as it it so re-hook after I use the bathroom, it makes a tremendous difference in my back pain and ability to walk. I was wearing it yesterday and it was starting to bug me, so I took it off and suddenly my back just hurt (as did everything else). I put it back on and it gave me enough support that I was able to walk around the mall a bit -- something I haven't been able to do in ages.

    Hideous, yes, but it WORKS!

I'm so glad it's helping out! I heard it's supposed to help ward off preterm labor. Maybe it does so with it's ugliness. j/k!
