Baby Harnesses...anyone used them?

    Hi,
I'm in the position now where I'm afraid to take the to the park alone. They love going BUT always end up running in different directions. They don't listen yet all that well when I ask them to stop etc ;) I love taking them and burning off energy letting them run around but it's scary when one goes one way and the other goes the other.

So my question has anyone used them? What are your thoughts?

I know people that have bought them, used them, and LOVED them. I bought them, used them, and wasn't incredibly crazy about them. I like the concept but honestly felt like I was walking a dog. I also had one child who was NOT a happy camper in them. I will definitely give them another try in the future.

Bought them...I loved them and so did my girls. Everytime we went outside they were like, "Backpack on?" We had the backpack harnesses from WalMart/Target. We used them from about 22-27 months

We've been using the backpack harnesses since they were 1 year old and still do. Our DD has the bear and our DS has the dog. They actually enjoy wearing them because they know it gives them more freedom. They're easy to wash, too.

I've been wanting them for the twins soooooo much. I just haven't had time to go get them. We have a staircase at the icehouse that has maybe 20 steps straight down, not to mention the bleachers. I don't want them falling down.
My middle son used one, but didn't like it much. I've heard of the backpack ones. Maybe those will be better.

I just bought two yesterday at Wal-Mart. They were less than $10 and they look like little puppy backpacks. I went to the park today, but just didn't have the nerve to put them on. We used the stroller...*sigh*.

Maybe this afternoon we'll try to take a walk down the street and put them on.

I got the monkey backpack/harness for my boys. I used them specifically when I flew with them from Burbank to Seattle 3 weeks ago, by myself...yeah, I'm crazy. It was a life saver in the airport and nice to not have to keep them confined to the stroller before and after we got off the plane. Nicholas loved his and didn't want to take it off! I was never a huge fan of them...but them I had twins!

We have the monkey and puppy backpacks from Wal-Mart and the twins love them. They even wear them in the house sometimes. They work great for us so the kids get a little freedom to move without us worrying about them.

we have them and use them if we are in big crowds otherwise we hold hands with them...if one of us is alone with them we still use the stroller

Thanks ladies! I always had to laugh when I saw a child with a harness...I would think it's a child and not a puppy and of course would never want to "leash" up my child...BUT then I had twins and I see that they can be so practical in so many ways.

I will have to take a look at Walmart! It will be perfect to use on our vacation also next week while going through the airport and zoo's.

Well, we tried these yesterday in the driveway and sidewalk. Good thing I just didn't assume they would work in the park. I would have made a spectacle of myself!!! SHEESH!

They both were fine putting them on. No issues there.

DD would just fall to the ground if "guided" and have a fit. We didn't get very far. LOL

I bought 1 a year ago and both boys hated it. I pulled it out a couple days ago because right now our car is on the other side of the road and Caleb has a habit of trying to run to it and not watching. I thought I was brilliant to put it on so I could safely bring all 3 kids across the road but NOPE!!! He freaked out! They don't like being "tied" down.

UH OH!! That's what my DS does when I try to hold hands with him! I was hoping a backpack "leash" would be different! Maybe not. I don't have them yet but want to try them so bad!! He's not a stroller baby either! DD would do anything we want her to....sigh.

Honestly, if I had a singleton - they would work. I got them all tangled and it was a mess. They were falling down. It was a mess - we were at the zoo.

I never used them again. They loved wearing the backpacks.... sorry, I'm not a lot of help. Try to find a school with a fenced in park (elementary that probably has preschool) and go there so they can play and you can relax. It's hard till you get them "trained" a bit!! We started to round the corner on that at about 18 mos.

we have them and dont use them alot but are great to have, we use them at the small petting zoo tha is near out house.
and today i had to bring them somewhere quick and did not have the stroller with me and i was so happy that i had them in the car.
thats where i keep them. they are great for just in case.
our walk pretty good on them, they dont mind being on them but i find it easier to hold hand with them on so them dont fall, if they try to run.

I will break them out occassionaly like when we go to the zoo or an open place where they can get lost and/or I am by myself. Arwen is a good listener and will stay with me when I tell her to do so but Lorien is in her own fog sometimes and it is dangerous so I will totally bust it out. She likes it though. They are just made so cute nowadays.
