OK, I'm clueless - where do you take a baby for a haircut? And how much does it cost? I thought I would just let both babies' hair grow and grow, but DS looks like such a freak right now. He's got crazy curls sticking up on top, and he's all long and shaggy on the sides like a bad 70's 'do, and he always looks like he has bedhead. Of course I love him just the way he is and he's the most handsome little baby I know, but...you know.

We ended up going out and buying a pair of clippers and my husband cuts my sons hair. My daughter doesn't have that much hair yet, so I don't know what we will end up doing with her.

I have a couple of options for when the time comes (and it will be soon because Meara's bangs are starting to get near her eyes!). There is a kids-cut place about 3 minutes from my house. However I doubt they will appreciate it until they are older (sitting on a carosel (sp?) horse, etc). There is also the place where I go to get my hair cut... they do kids cuts too. This is probably what I will do so I can hold them while the woman who cuts my hair gives them a little trim. Both places are $8 for kids under 3 I think. I guess look in your yellow pages or ask some moms when you are out and about. GL!

Do a search for kid cut places -- we have a few, including Circus Cuts, Snip-Its, etc. Most of them will give you a lock of hair in a little baggie to save, if it's his first haircut....

It's not terribly expensive, maybe around $10 or $15 at the very most.

I'll be trimming up the boys' hair (mainly just need it around their ears) on their first birthday. I cut DH's hair too.

When my boys get some hair...we'll cut it with the clippers, just like Daddy! In fact, I plan on it being a family event, every three weeks, I'll cut all my menfolk's hair...

    That's a cute event. :D

Dax really needs a haircut but I'm worried about using the same clippers I use for Paul. It just seems like it wouldn't work but I haven't the slightest idea why I think that.

Thanks for the ideas! I'm a little afraid to do it myself, but who knows, maybe I'll take the plunge... (I just don't want all the other babies to ostracize him because his mom cuts his hair! )

I totally know what you mean. I have had such feelings of guilt for desperately wanting to cut off my baby's "locks". Everyone in my family would probably have me hanged because they just love his little curls as they call them. I think it looks like a toupee (sp?)! Two snips and he'd be a brand new, stylish little stud. I think you should just do it (since I'm too chicken).

My boys hair is curly and I just trimmed their bangs myself for the first time last week just to get it from hanging in front of their eyes. Their hair is kinda long but since it is curly it only looks long wet. You can probably definately do it yourself.

I have only had to trim ds's hair twice and dd's hair is NO WHERE near needing a trim (she just barely has hair  ). My hairdresser taught me to take pieces of ds's hair and twist it and trim the edges that way. It keeps it very baby like and not noticeable.

    HTH :icon_biggrin:

Hmm, that's interesting. I can't quite picture it - could you tell me a little more? TIA! :)

Take sections (I probably do 7 cuts total) of hair between your fingers and twist the ends, then grab with your other hand and then cut the ends, I always trim very little off knowing I can always trim more if necessary.
Imagine grabbing your bangs, and twisting them together, then cutting off about 1in, does that make it more clear? LOL

This leaves the hair looking "natural" with no straight lines that tend to give the "haircut" look.

OK, I think I get it (in spite of having mommy brain). :) Now just to keep the little guy distracted enough to do it...

The nice thing about this technique, is that they don't need to stay REALLY still like they would if you were trying to cut a straight line, just still enough to get a quick cut in!!!

I cut our dog's hair but he has curly, forgiving hair and let's face it, he's a dog and we aren't showing him. DH wanted me to use the same hair shears and clippers on the boys and I said NO. They have such fine, blonde hair and it shows every cut. I don't want the stress of getting it right (I'm a bit of a perfectionist...) or to have to look at bad haircuts for weeks while DH tells me how it looks "fine".

I take them to the walk-in places and it's $8 per boy ($7 if I have a coupon ;) ) They only go every 3 months.
