just wondering what type of baby food you use...gerber, earths best, beech nut, ect.

We are just getting ready to start stage 1 in a week or 2 and was thinking of getting the gerber organic. Eventually I do want to make my own baby food though.

I did beech nut and gerber at first then switched to organic (either store brand or gerber, earth's best etc). Tried my own but they hate it, lol, so we're going through 6 jars a day now... and I know I'm lucky they don't eat much.

I use Earth's Best Organic and they love it! I have not tried any of the others, though I was willing to try Gerber Organics, if they have nything that Earth's Best does not and sounded interesting. So far, though, They are doing really well on EB. I'd say if you are planning on making their food, organic is the way to go wince that has the least amount of extra stuff in it and is most like homemade. The non-organic babyfood tends to add preservatives and extra stuff that is not normally added to homemade food.

I don't think it's true... I know beech nut etc don't add any preservatives. They're just not organic.

My issue with EB is that a lot of their veggie jars have rice in them, and it's made DS constipated most of the time... The gerber variety is plain veggie and it goes much better for him, but they have a really small selection.

I made most of my own, but what I didn't make I usually got the Walmart brand (I think it's Nature's Best or something). The exception is meat. Mine won't eat the meat I make and Gerber has a few varieties (like ham) that the Walmart brand doesn't have. Also, I sometimes buy the Gerber Graduates diced apples because the girls love them and I haven't seen any cheaper way to get diced apples without having to make them.

Like Beth, we usually get the wal-mart brand unless Gerber has something else I think they might like. I buy the diced apples too.

We used Earth's Best. If you register on their website, they will send you some coupons. Also a few times a year, they have a nice sale in the grocery store for BOGO free. You should have seen the cashiers face when I pulled up with my cart.

I make my own. Yuck on the jar stuff (would you want to eat it???) FWIW - my twins who were premies (DD got down to 2 lbs in the NICU and DS who was 3.3 ) are now 20 and 26 lbs at 10 months old! It's easy to make baby food and inexpensive (my two have graduated to "people food" and complain, oh they complain if they don't get it  ).

We used Beechnut. It isn't organic, but it is pretty much just the fruit or veggie it says it is and water to make it puree. Very few of them have preservatives (like bananas). Though really we were only on the jar stuff for about 2 months before I started introducing mashed up table food. They still have a jar once in a while when I am being lazy, just don't have the time, or happen to look over and realize how much we still have to go through :), but for the most part they have been completely on table food since about 9 1/2 months.

    ETA: fixed typo.

I get whatever is on sale. I always have a variety of brands in my cupboard because there is only so much selection and my boys would be so bored if I just stuck to one brand.

mine will start fuits and veggies in 2 weeks, and I have started to make my own already, and freezing it. i try to use organic fruits and veggies when possible. Now as far as the taste....we'll have to wait and see if they like it. But its easy and kinda fun to make!

We make our own baby food, in tuith it is big people food. They get whatever is on our typical menu. Commercial baby food is just way too expensive. We our on a gluten/wheat free diet for the first year due to family allergy. We love Mum mums, rice husk crackers. Basic startes considered stage 1 are simple to add on to your dinner cooking , potates, sweet potates, avacados, rice cereal with BM. Are our current favorites. We didn't really like bananas. And we can;t get good fruit produce in the winter up here.

My new favorite bok though is "Super Baby Food" by Ruth Yaron. Great book tons of awesome recipes and all the common sense info you need to produce store and easily feed your kiddos.

    Best Wishes

Well, no offense, but some people don't have the choice. My babies hate homemade food, we still have batches of it in the freezer...

I make my own as well because I think it's fresher and has got to taste better. Plus mine don't like any food thin like the store bought stuff. However, I do buy Gerber organics. We use them on occasion when we are going out somewhere. They don't do very well with it unless I add rice cereal though.
