    Hey all,

In case this is helpful for any of you, we made another batch of baby food. It took between 2-3 hours for most of the work. I kept track of the prices and the process and wrote a blog post about it. It came out to be $.16 per 4 oz. jar, but we used some more expensive ingredients (like chicken) this time.

I had done this a few months ago and posted about it. The first time we made baby food is here.

We have made all of our baby food so far, using all organic ingredients and it is SOOO much cheaper than the store bought stuff! and it just doesn't take that much of our time. I only make it when I am already using the oven I will throw Sweet potatos and squash in there to bake.....

    They LOVE it!

    thanks for posting this!

Good for you! I loved making my own baby food too. My baby food peas never failed to elicit a response from people. They were so green!

My aunt works for a restaurant and can get take-away containers for really cheap. We're saving them to reuse them as we make new batches.

Thanks. I wonder if Sam's would have something like that.

Thanks for the cost breakdown - that was nice to see!

I make my food in smaller batches, mainly because I use a small food mill and ice cube trays, and I don't want to be constantly washing the mill or having to go out and buy more trays! But, I still love making baby food - I find it very cathartic. Looking at my bags or brightly-colored cubes never fails to bring a smile to my face!

YAY for you. Its great isn't it? I just made some batches this past weekend. Carrots, Mango chicken, butternut squash and a plum nectarine mix. I figured out that the squash was 5 when I bought it, and it made 30 cubes which is about 15 servings at .33 per serving. Pretty good!! The mango chicken made about 30 servings as well. I freeze all my purees in ice trays and then put the cubes in a freezer bag. Its so easy just grab cubes thaw and eat!!

Wow, that mango chicken sounds like gourmet baby food!
