Ok, so we started solids at 6 mo. First we did rice, then oatmeal, then I went through all the stage 1 veggies and bananas. Yesterday I was a the store and the stage 2 baby food was on sale, so I figured I might as well buy it and if they couldn't eat it right now, I'd save it for later.

I opened a package of sweet potatoes today, and they looked exactly the same as the stage 1 sweet potatoes!?! I was expecting them to look, I don't know... more textured I guess. What is exactly the difference between stage 1 and stage 2??

These are our first kids, and we have no "all-knowing" adults to help us out.... If anyone has any good resources for feeding babies, please pass them my way. I have no idea when I'm supposed to be feeding them what or how much or whatever. Personally, I'm sad to see the ease and convenience of the bottle start to go away, even though its fun and exciting for them to be eating solids.

    Thanks for the help!!

We just started solids recently and have been making ours... check out this website: www.wholesomebabyfood.com/
it has some good info on stage 1 (highly pureed, thin, runny) and stage 2 (thick more textured) foods and some recipes to make your own.

Stage 2 is mostly the same consistency as stage 1 in store bought foods, but there is more in the container (for hungrier babies), and a wider variety (less worries about allergic reactions). I think meats are added into stage 2 stuff but I can't remember for sure it's been a few years! :)

I definitely found the Stage 1's to be super watery compared with Stage 2. I think that and the size are the only difference. Not till you get to Stage 3 will you find any actual chunks.

    Happy Eating!

Theres an awesome book that we used call SUPER BABY FOOD. You can also google it for exerpts: THIS will show you the layout of the book and I think it will even let you read chapter 13 in its entirety if you follow the link and thats specific for 7 month olds. Hope that helps!

So *that's* the difference! I wondered too, because the consistency does look about the same to me....

Stage 2 is just a bigger container and they have more varieties.

^^What she said! Bigger containers, and they start mixing foods in some Stage 2 foods.
