Baby Food - Where to buy?

Well today the Ped told us we could start trying cereal by spoon. They have been having cereal in thier formula since they were less than a month old. I have been wanting to try a spoon for a while as my son loves watching us eat and I heard that cereal on a spoon might mean we can put less in thier formula.

I just mixed up 3 tsp. worth and between the 2 of them finished it all and were screaming for more. They get a bottle at 4:00 so hopefully they will hold off. My son has been drinking 8oz. bottles for over a month now so I think it is time.

I know many choose to wait, but this is what works for us.

Now my real question is where does one buy jarred baby food cheap? I know it is cheap just about everywhere, but does any one place have a particularly good deal? I intend to make some baby food for them, but the things we do not eat like green beans, I will buy in jars for them to try.

    Thanks in advance!

I used to buy ours at Wal-mart or HEB. I think HEB has the Beechnut line. I liked some of their veggies better because they weren't as runny as the Gerber. HEB also seemed to have them on sale more often.

HEB? Sorry, I am not familiar with that. What is it?

I usually buy baby food at Target or Kroger. They always have it on sale and at Kroger, I get a coupon every time I buy there. At Target, it's usually just under $.50/jar for Gerber. I think the Stage 1's are $.97 for the two-pack (Gerber) of fruits and veggies.

Sorry! Maybe they only have them here in Texas. It's a grocery store.

I dont know where the "best" place is to buy it since I buy at several stores depending on the sales/coupons I have. I will say that Walmart has seemed to have the best regular price but there selections is very limited (atleast our Walmart's is) and I can usually get it for much less on sale at the regular grocery store with coupons. If you go online to Beechnut.com and Gerber.com you can sign up to recieve coupons in the mail and they also have printable coupons. I prefer Beechnut for veggies and fruits since they are less runny but usually get the stage 3 Gerber meats since they have a better selection.

Thanks I was thinking beech-nut might be good as it seems to be quite cheap and our local store has pretty good selection.

    Thanks again!

I made most of mine, but I noticed (after they were off baby food) that Costco carries a box of a variety of flavors of organic baby food. I'm sure it is cheap compared to buying smaller quantities.

If I bought it, it was usually from Target.

Wal-Mart just had a bunch of Nature's Goodness clearanced out for 34 cents a jar for stage 2, I kept loading up! That's over now, but they still are like only 47 cents a jar, which is cheaper than Gerber.

Right now our grocery store has them on sale until December (Gerber), so I've been getting it there, or at Target when it's on sale. But we are more and more going to table food with them. And I am a coupon nut, like PP said, sign up at Gerber, Beechnut, Nature's Goodness to get coupons sent to you and e-mailed. Plus, if you save Gerber labels, you can send them in for even more coupons. Oh, and when I first started buying food, I sometimes bought coupons off of eBay. I would pay like 2 bucks for 15-20 bucks worth of coupons - totally worth it!!!

Sorry to hijack but Kendra where do you send the Gerber UPC's to get coupons? I send in the ones from Beechnut for coupons but have never seen offeres from Gerber like that other than the Graduates UPC offers.

I have found Target to be the cheapest. They have great sales, but I used to have to have to go that day otherwise the shelves would be cleared.

I don't know about buying it, but I thought I would let you know that we used to freeze our baby food that we made. After we would puree the food, we would pour it in ice trays to freeze. That made a great serving to defrost.

I do intend to make some things, but I figured I would just buy the things that we dont eat in jars. The stuff we do eat, I intend to make and freeze!

Sam's carries the gerber fruit (has banana, banana/strawberry/apple, and applesauce) and veggies (green beans, sweet potatoes, and something else) and that's where I buy those. (formula and diapers there too). Otherwise, I buy at Wal-mart or at Target.

We get ours from Wal Mart and Food Lion. We get the Beechnut. The Beechnut has 4 ounces of food for about 50 cents per jar. The gerber is 3.5 ounces of food for about 70 cents per jar. Plus Beechnut seems to have more variety.

We are just starting to gear up now but the twins won't actually start baby food for at least another month or two. With my old DD I would buy on sale, with coupons, etc. I also used to get the big packs at BJ's Wholesale Club. 90 percent of the time I used Beechnut but did use Gerber occasionally. I just called and Beechnut and Gerber both have multiples programs. I'm not sure what they entail yet but they are sending out packets to me. I also made baby food occasionally for my older DD. Every now and then something like sweet potatoes would be on sale so I'd make them. There were a few good websites that helped me with making them. I'd store them in baby food jars that I had run through the dishwasher or the little Glad take-along containers. I think I'll mostly use the jarred food though this time around. Making is fun now and again but too much work on top of everything else I have to do!

i get alot of coupons from gerber after calling them and giving them my addy... I buy mine at CVS for buy one get one half off... makes it the same price as walmart and i try to buy as least as possible there. Plus get my CVS bucks back and that can go towards it too. I buy all formula and diapers there too... I do buy some at walmart because the selection is not that great at CVS or they are out of it. Walmart is like one of the only places in our small town.
