Baby food or more table food

How much table food should I be feeding my babies? For the most part they eat quite a bit of baby food still. They will eat the 3rd stage single fruits and veggies but hate the dinners. They will eat table food too but I am not really sure when to do the complete switch over. I know they say 1 yr to be on all table food but should I be pushing table/finger foods more than baby food at this point? My twins are 10 months old and are good at feeding themselves when I give them something. My concern about all table food is whether they are getting enough food at each meal. And wow trying to find food that is not repetive at this point is hard. I feel like they eat the same things everyday finger food wise.

    Thanks

I'm giving you a big fat thanks for posting this! My girls are about 2 weeks behind your babies and only eating some table food. I gave them some stuff they didn't like and they went on almost a complete strike for a week! We have regressed back to mostly stage 2. So thanks for this post - I'm looking forward to the advice you receive!! :D

I have mine on all table food and then feed them applesauce or yogurt or cream of wheat etc. myself. They like to feed themselves better then being fed and its my understanding that the food they are eating now is just for "practice" and only supplemental to breastmilk or formula. In all honesty, I don't think there is a "right" way. Do what seems best for you and your babies. I just gave the kids a jelly sandwich for lunch/snack today, they have mac and cheese, grilled cheese, toast, carrots, green beans, corn, broccoli, peas, bananas, peaches, pears, oranges, cantaloupe, watermelon, cherrios, oatmeal, cream of wheat, any elbow noodles, chicken, ground meat, soft cheeses. They usually always eat off of our dinner plates to some extent. No one told me what to do, so I just give them soft foods and cut it small enough so that I didn't worry about chocking and if they took it well then I continued with it, but if they had a hard time with it then I have held off. Good luck

We switched to all table food at 9 months. We did lots of noodles, yogurt, and ground meat. Use you common sense on things they should eat(soft, small, mild flavored)

I am doing a mix of table and stage 3 type foods.......table foods are cantaloupe, watermelon, stewed apples, cups of peaches or pears diced, deli turkey, ham, rb, soft cheeses, mac and cheese, noodles, ground beef, cheerios soaked in milk. I still feed them from the spoon at times because like you I am crazy making sure they are getting enough to eat. So, from spoon breakfast grains (rice, oatmeal, cream of wheat with pureed fruits), veggies (they do not want them any other way right now), baby yogurt, avocado, and at times fruit, as well as, stage 3 dinners.

My guys go through days they want the table food and others the pureed. I look at it that each child is different and just because a pedi recommends table foods completely by 1 yo it does not mean that it will happen by that date. Each kid needs to be exposed to it daily and they will get the hang of it. I am not going to freak out if they are still eating puree's at times.

Jacob will not eat any breakfast off the spoon, he wants softened cheerios. So, I measure 3 tbsp of them every morning, soak in milk, let him feed himself then I feed him his fruit. Noah wants his cereal (rice or cream of wheat with fruit) fed to him. Lunch and Dinner, Noah feeds himself more but, lets me help him and spoon feed puree to make sure he has enough "balanced diet". Jacob with lunch and dinner tries to feed himself but, still needs my help.

We are doing the best we can as twin mom's and as long as they are healthy and developmentally on track then I am not going to add pure table foods by 1 yo to the list of my worries. Goodness knows I have enough with hoping they are eating enough, sleeping through the night and sippy cups. :)

Like pp that sounds like me. We do a combo of baby food and table food just didn't know if I "should" be pushing one more than the other. They have tried lots of different table foods and most of them are a go. It seems like my ds gets tired of feeding himself after a while and wants me to take over. DD doesn't seem to mind either way so I guess I will continue doing what I am doing....And don't remind me about sippy's. They have them with water when sitting in the high chair at meals but when I put formula in them forget it they won't touch them. Ds will drink juice DD won't touch it in a cup or bottle. She hates it and I have watered it way down for her too (but I water it down anyway but more for her than him).

Mine were completely on table food by 10 months, but they were never big baby food fans so the transition was really easy.

This is what I've done for my kids. I start off on baby food then slowly work my way to 100% table food. If I think they can eat something we're eating for dinner, I dice it or mash it and let them eat it. I still spoon feed them things like yogurt and applesauce. As far as finger food ideas I just wander the store a little bit and look at what they have. Honestly, my boys love canned beans of any shape or size the best, that is their favorite finger food.
