At our showers we have gotten so many precious clothes. I'm not a huge supersticious person, but I don't want to jinx myself in this high risk pregnancy by washing all the clothes before they are born. Is that completely crazy? Did anyone else feel this way? Like I said, I'm not into supersticious, but little things stick with me. For example, I have not thrown away my home pregnancy test yet, but I will toss it after they're born. I know...it makes no sense.

I still have my home pregnancy tests from the twins and they will be two soon ;) is that weird?
i had a ton of hand me downs from both of my sisters so those items i did wash so they were ready.
most of the new clothes we got were the wrong season. (we had an early baby shower) so we got a ton of summer clothes for the twins and they were born one day shy of october.
so most of the clothes got returned. the ones that i did keep i did wash.
guess it was me thinking that i would need everything ready when i got home with new babies.
    good luck to you.

I've washed everything we've gotten. I'm kind of obsessed at the moment with having everything ready and it drives me nuts to have something sitting there not washed and ready to go. LOL I just know that I won't have the time or energy once they come and I'm sure my DH would do a great job but I am having so much fun doing it all and getting it set up just how I want it. :)

I still have my home pregnancy test too

I washed EVERY SINGLE thing & wish that I wouldn't have. I wish that I would have just washed just enough things to get us through (we had sooo many clothes). I would have returned quite a bit if I wouldn't have already washed it all.

I'm holding off on washing mostly because I have a fear that I'm growing these giant like 8 lbs babies and all of the newborn stuff will be too small!

I did get a lot of hand-me-downs, and those have all been washed, but I'm scared to cut the tags off the new stuff.

I plan on washing the clothes after my baby shower November 8th. But only the ones that they will beable to wear at the beginning. I will leave anything 3 months plus un washed. Don't want to have to wash them again before they wear them. I am weird about having clean clothes. I am not sure what detergent to use this time. I think I used Dreft with my son but it is so expensive! Curious to know what everyone else will be using?

I agree with pp, I am afraid to wash everything and cut the tags off in fear that they wont be able to wear them!

Yes, I always wash all the kids clothes, even now, before they wear them. I used All Baby (much cheaper than Dreft).

I even wash all of mine and DH's clothes before we wear them. :D

I didn't wash many clothes before they were born (just a few sleepers and onesies) -- not because I was superstitious, but because I had no idea what we'd need and I wanted to be able to return the things that still had tags attached!

There will be plenty of time to wash things before you need them. I do wash everything before they wear them though (both new stuff and hand-me-downs).

And for the record, my twins are almost 3 and I still have my HPTs! :)

I wash everything. I also add a cup of baking soda to each load. it kills a lot of the chemicals they put in clothes. manly the formaldyhd (i know i did not spell that right). also, instead of using fabric softner, i put in white vinigar to the wash. totally safe to the babies, does not leave a smell, and works. ooo, the loads i remember from just one, i cant wait for the loads with two!

Me too, we also bought a few premie outfits, but Im almost certin the girls wont fit them, better to have them just in case :) I plan on washing everything after my baby shower that is 0-3 months and up. And waiting on the other sizes.

If it was the right season and 0-3 months, I washed it and had it ready. If it was a handme down, those were washed. Other things that were or might have been slightly off season or the wrong size, I didn't wash.

I use any "free and clear" detergent that is on sale. Check the labels...they just about have all the same ingredients (dreft, baby all, all free and clear, etc).

BTW...I still have my HPTs from the boys.

Ditto Snoopy. I have used Tide Free for all of my babies (my 2 y/o, my 32 y/o DH, the coming twins) and it has worked well for us. Then again, it seems that DH has had the most sensitive skin of all my boys.

I use Tide Free as well! I did not wash their clothes before they were born. I was too tired to do all that!

I washed everything up to 3 months. I'm a little supersticious......I waited until just last week to do it. DH finally told me, "stop putting that off, these boys are coming"....haha, apparently I just needed someone to tell me to do it.

I washed all the 0-3 an 3-6 months stuff but not the bigger stuff. We used hypoallergenic detergent. I did it when the nesting urge hit.

I washed everything before I had the kids as I knew I probably wouldnt be up to it after I came home. I still have all the pragnancy tests. :)

I am having my c-section on next tuesday so this weekend i washed all the clothes so i'll be ready when i come back from the hospital, but only few. In my shower i got lots of clothes so I only washed from 0-3 months only not older coz i think it might be waste of money since i have lots of clothes and if kids grow out of 0-3 i might want to exchange or start later on then i can wash them later on. Plus i am very paranoid abt clothing, i wash all the clothes before i wear them god knows where they hv been in how many hands. I got this article from my friend so that made me even worse.

Read it. its an awakening. Hope it helps to make your decision, if you are lil bit superstitious like me wash it just when its safe for the babies to be born or just wash one pair for hospital clothes wait for the rest.

    >After anthropologist Susan McKinley came back home from an expedition in South America , she noticed a very strange rash on her left breast. Nobody knew what it was and she quickly dismissed it believing that the holes would leave in time.
    >

    >Upon her return she decided to see a doctor after she started developing intense pains. The doctor, not knowing the exact severity of the disease, gave her antibiotics and special creams. As time lapsed the pain did not subside and her left breast became more inflamed and started to bleed.
    >She decided to bandage her sores however as Susan's pain grew more intense she decided to seek help from a more certified doctor. Dr. Lynch could not diagnose the infection and told Susan to seek the aid of one of his colleagues who specialized in dermatology whom was sadly on vacation. She waited for two weeks and finally was able to react the dermatologist.
    >

    >Sadly, a life-changing event was about to unfold during her appointment.

    >To Miss McKinley's surprise, after she removed the bandages, they found larva growing and squirming within the pores and sores of her breast.
    >

    >

    >Sometimes these wicked creatures would all together simultaneously move around into different crevices. What she didn't know was that the holes were in fact, deeper than she had originally thought for these larvae were feeding off the fat, tissue, and even milk canals of her bosom.

LOL I still have my HPT and my twins are 9 weeks LOL and as for washing clothes maybe I'm bad for this but I didn't wash anything I just took the tags off and put it on them the way I saw it I don't wash them before I wear them....and that way if they never got to wear then I can get more out of them at a yard sale with the tags still on them.

I washed them before the kids were born because I wanted to get everything set up before we brought them home. I did end up doing a little bit of laundry (the new preemie clothes) after have the twins but they were still in the hospital at the time so it wasn't too much of a hassle. You can always wait until you reach a big milestone like 30 weeks before you wash them or you can try to recruit someone to do it while you are still at the hospital following the birth.
