i want to get at least 1 carrier for my 18 month old. how long can these carriers last? i read lots of great things about the beco and the ergo.
when we have another baby, i want to be able to 'wear' that baby a lot more so i can push the twins. however, one of my LOs really likes being held now and at 25 lbs, i would like to 'wear' them. :)

We have bjorns, but I don't like them at all. If I was going to buy a new baby carrier it would be the ergo. A friend had one that we tried out and it was very comfortable and worked really well. They're extreme baby wearers.. they live in a big city and walk or take public transit pretty much everywhere they go, so their ergo gets a lot of use and has made it through 2 kids.

And as for wearing a 25 lb kid.. good for you! My back was breaking on our last trip where we used carriers a lot, I think the kiddos were about 25 lbs then. They were really squirmy though so that didn't help one bit.

so am i not logical for carrying my 18mo? hes a mush and likes to be held...it hurts my arms more than anything! i was thinking a carrier might be the way to go and i can just use it with the 'next' baby.

I'd still hold my kids if I could! They don't want it anymore and I miss it already.

I think baby-wearing an 18 month old sounds fine! Just make sure you get a good, supportive carrier so you don't hurt your back. If I were out and about more often with the boys I'd probably wear one of them too. :good: I've often threatened to get back out the baby sling for Jack, who would love to be carried 24x7.

I would reccomend a beco or an ergo as well. Both are wonderful carriers. You can find them used for a cheaper price on craigslist. www.thebabywearer.com is a great resource for babywearing. There are also lots of videos on youtube for learning how to use a carrier (like how to get a baby on your back when your alone). Good luck!!

I have two of these Playtex Hip Hammock Carrier. I don't know how it would work using it all day, but I loved them, my baby was close to me, but not stuck out in front of me. It works to 35 lbs,

I have a ring sling and it is great for carrying them on your hip, in a front pouch style and you can use it for smaller babies. I use my ring sling to carry one of the twins while the other one walks or so I can have an arm free to open the car when carrying both. When they are smaller, if you follow common sense and practice safety, they are safe to use.
