I have been using Dr. Browns baby bottles up until now and they have been great with the reflux and the colic etc.

But they are a pita to clean and are looking a little gungy. I would like to use a normal bottle - do you think its worth it to buy another kind now?

how long did your babies use a bottle for?

what kind should i get - any recommendations? any how many should I get? we have been working with 10 Dr. Browns as they currently get 4 bottles a day each and we make them up for the day the night before as we both work.

    thanks.

We were having 4 bottles a day and at 11 months, we dropped one bottle at the advice of the pediatrician. 1.5 weeks later, we dropped another, 1 week later another and by 1 week before their 1st birthday, my girls were bottle free. I'd say at this point it's not worth buying new bottles unless you think they are going to resist weening.

If you do buy new bottles i'd only get a couple and don't get the Dr browns as that is what they like and are used to. Maybe get some Nubby soft spout sippies and try to transition to those. They are the easiest sippy cups to use..

Try a sippy cup with a soft nipple for lunch or dinner.

We were completly off the bottle at 1. We did the sippy cups starting at about 10 months.

    Thanks ladies.

My two do fine with a sippy cup so that is not a problem.

What about just before bed though - still sippy cup? My two often fall asleep during their last bottle and I would just think a bottle would be more relaxing.

Maybe I am just having a hard time letting go???

I agree with the pp's I would go to sippy's if you can. Mine were off of bottles by 12mths (my girls were off by 11 1/2 mths). My son had a harder time with the sippy but the nuby ones helped a lot and worked well for him to transition to other sippys'. My girls had no problems and went to a regular sippy. I would try to start cutting down on the bottles during the day and start trying to get them on sippy's. You can even put the formula in the nuby if you really had to.

We were posting at the same time. If you can try to get them to stop taking the bottle right before bed and maybe change it to 10 or 15min before bed. You don't really want them to get used to that, especially when they go to milk. The milk is bad for their teeth to be sitting on them all night long. Or if you can switch to water in bed and they can fall asleep to that.

We went from 4 bottles at 10.5 months to no bottles by 12 months. Just drop them one at a time and replace with a sippy. I wouldn't buy new bottles.

I wouldn't buy more bottles, but you can certainly keep giving the nighttime bottle for as long as you wish (well, stop by 2 y/o!!). That way you only need "two" good bottles to last you a little while longer.
And I think you will find as they get older (around 15 months) solids will be such a part of thier diet they will not the miss the bedtime bottle at all.

I, personally, wouldn't buy more. I would use what you have and work towards weaning them! Saves the hassle and the $$ that you could be spending the ridiculously expensive sippies :D

We switched from bottles to Nuby cups at 9 months and broke them cold turkey at 2

I did not want to let go of the night time bottle at all!! They were still 14 months and having a night time bottle. One night there were none clean and I didn't want to wash any, so I used a sippy. I never went back to bottles again. It is so much easier! I fill the sippy in the morning and we pull it out as needed for snacks and meals. At night I refill it and they drink it just like it was a bottle. There is less to wash and they are still drinking the same amount. It was harder for me than it was for them. If you are going to buy anything, buy sippies ;)
    Good luck!!
