Baby B flipped back to breech :(

So the results of my 30-week appointment today (almost 31 weeks now) were overall pretty good. The boys scored well on their biophysical profiles, their weight gain and mine are good, BP and iron levels are good ...

but the bad news is, the boys were breech through my 22-week appt, then both vertex at 26 and 28 weeks ... and now Baby B has flipped back to breech. :(

The OB said it's unlikely he'll change position again after this point--that with the "spooning" position they're in now, they're actually fitting in there well so he'd probably get uncomfortable if he tried to flip again, plus he's running out of room.

She also said that this increases the chances I'll end up needing a C-section, that if they stay this way, I can try vaginal and they can try a manual version of B after A comes out, but that "they" (at that hospital) don't like to do breech extractions. So if the version doesn't work, we'd go to a C-section. [Confusing, because 2 of the OBs at my practice have said the same thing about no breech extractions but one said a breech extraction was possible and the MFM said not only is it possible, but he's *never* had to deliver a Baby B surgically if A came out vaginally. Too bad that other than that amazing record, I don't like the MFM--lousy bedside manner.]

She also said that since it's my first pregnancy, I don't really have a "relaxed, flaccid uterus," which means a manual version would be more difficult and have a lower chance of success. She couldn't give me statistics or anything but just said it's something I'll need to weigh in deciding whether I do want to try for a vaginal delivery or go straight for a C-section. (And here's me, wanting to go as natural as possible with twins as long as the babies and I are doing well ...)

    Just wondering:
    (a) If anyone had a breech B at 30-31 weeks that later flipped back to vertex, and
    (b) What your OBs/MFMs have said about the stuff I just mentioned.

Im there with ya. Baby A my little girl went breech at my u/s this last week. Im 29 wks. My dr assured me that it was not out of the question for her to turn back around. My dr is awsome though and even if she is breech that still dosn't rule out a v-birth for him. I also understand though that baby b can do almost anything they want as long as baby a can be dilevered.

It stinks when they don't do what we want them to ;)

My OB has said that as long as baby a is vertex she can probably flip baby b if she is breech. She said she has never had to do a C-section if baby a was born vaginally. So Im not sure I know every dr. does their own thing. Im just hoping for a vaginal delivery, but of course whatever is best for the babies will work for me. Good luck maybe things will work out and you will have your vaginal delivery.

Our Baby B is breech too. My OB said she will only do a vaginal delivery if both babies are head down. I know every doctor does it differently. Even though I would prefer a vaginal birth I want my OB to do whatever she thinks is best! Good luck to you!

I had baby B turn Vertex around 35 weeks :) It can be done!

Before we knew that she had flipped though my doctor was strongly encouraging me to get an epidural in case she had to deliver baby b breech.
She said Baby A will come first and " pave the way" so to speak. But if she wont turn on her own after he exits and leaves her all that room then Im going to have to stck my hand up there and pull her out by the ankles. She said I can guarantee it will be more uncomfortable then the baby you would have just pushed out but she was with me and thinks its better to delvier a baby breech (so long as its the second baby) instead of getting a c-section which is a major surgery!

I think you should just see how it goes, definitely try vaginal there are SOO many more advantages -- talk to your doctor again about the possibility of delivering baby b breech. Is it your doctors comfort level or experience that is a factor? or is it the hospital?

    goodluck :)

Unfortunately I don't have good news from my side. My boy (A) was in the perfect head down position but girl (B) was always breech. At that point my Peri was fine with attempting a vaginal delivery and hoping for B to flip once A was out. At 28 weeks A flipped to breech (so they were both breech at that point) and then at 31 weeks A was still breech and B had flipped to oblique transverse (which at this point is her head down by my hip and laying sort of diagnally). They have stayed this way ever since then. My Peri said he'd never personally seen twins flip past 32 weeks especially with my size (small) and their size (average for singletons). As of last Friday (35 wks 1 day) they were in the exact same position they have been in since 32 weeks. We're very excitedly looking forward to a c-section next Wedn. My DH and I really were hoping for a vaginal birth and trying to go as long as I could without the epidural so we could try some of the natural techniques. At this point I'm honestly looking forward to the section (although I am nervous). It's scheduled, I'll be prepared (now watch something will happen between now and then and it will all be a rush ;) ), and it will get the babies out quick. I think once you get to this point you'll be ok with getting them out however you can. ;) That's my experience anyway. Maybe you'll get lucky and B will turn for you or maybe try for a vaginal for A. I have read that even if you have can deliver A vaginally and have to have a section for B that it's still better for the babies to go through labor. So maybe that is an option if you really want to have the vaginal experience. I don't think I'd want both personally but I was going to attempt it if A was vertex. Good luck!!

My Baby B flipped vertex (from breech) sometime after 32 weeks. My scan at 31+ weeks showed him breech. The next scan, at maybe 33 weeks (I don't really remember), showed him vertex. I did NOT feel him flip. They were born vaginally without incident.

My Baby B was breech too. My OB said in his 15 years has he NEVER had to do a vag birth then C-section on twins. He told me after Baby A was born, they would do a quick ultrasound to see if Baby B moved. If not, they would turn it (I didn't find out the genders of my boys). And if that didn't work, he would put his hand up my ya-ho and pull the baby by it's feet as Baby A would have stretched things out by then. Ironically I saw this happen on an episode of "Dirty Jobs" when they were deliving a calf. :D Didn't look like a lot of fun. So here's what really happened:

    Baby A came out.
Ultrasound - Baby B was now lying across my uterus.
OB turned and turned Baby B (externally) for a 1/2 hr.
I sat there with my legs spread wide open, looking over at Baby A (I didn't hold him as I was shaking a lot).
Baby B was then turned and into place.
Pump the pitocen - my cervix closed up. I believe this doesn't happen too often and it was about a 1/2 hr waiting.
    Time to push.
Out came Baby B. My boys are 1 hr 10 min apart in delivery time.

All I can say is THANK GOD FOR AN EPIDURAL!!! I didn't feel any of the turning of Lucas, and by the looks of it, it should have hurt! My uterine area was very sore for 2 days afterwards from all the turning, and I'm surprised I didn't bruise.

Honestly, don't get too concerned about this. It will all work out. I'm hoping this is coming across as sincere and not condesending - that's the danger of typing things and not verbally saying things.

my doc said the same thing about the odds of not flipping after about 31 weeks or so.

Mine did flip at about 34 weeks (I think, hard to remember now). I also have heard many stories on here of bbies flipping during their 30;s so I really don't believe th e docs with that. They can flip until the day they are born. There's still time.

(don't know about the other stuff.) Good luck sending you some (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((flippin' vibes))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

At my last scan both babies were breech, I really hope they turn!
My Dr. won´t go vaginal unless they are both vertex.
    I´m still praying.....

Yep my babies were both head down at 30 weeks, then at my 32 week appt baby B had flipped breech......
At my 34 week appt last Friday he was still breech! I am praying and was even prayed over at church to have him turn as I am dreading more than anything a c-section! I will see if he has flipped this friday but by 36 weeks if not, she will schedule my c-section for around 38 weeks! If he turns by then of course I can cancel it but I am sad.

Does anyone know if they will try a vaginal birth if baby A turns breech??? This whole time he has been head down, very low and now he decided to turn!!!! the other one is head down. The doc didnt seem concerned and she planned on inducing me in January (though I dont think I will make it!)

Dallasm: That totally depends on your doc. From what I've heard, most docs want at least Baby A to be vertex (and about 87% of the time with twins that is the case) but I've heard of some docs who will attempt a vaginal delivery with a non-vertex Baby A. It seems uncommon though. But definitely ask your doc!

There were a set of twins born 4 days after my girls. The mom was actually being induced the day we were discharged but didn't progress, so she was sent home. Baby A was vertex and Baby B was breech, so the OB was planning on delivering vaginally and attempting an external version. Anyway, like I said, she was sent home. She came back 2 days later in labor, and when they hooked her up to the monitors, they couldn't find Baby B. Turns out that in those 2 days, Baby B had turned to vertex at 39 weeks!!! And her babies weren't small...6 1/2 and 7!! It was the 7 pounder that flipped. So it can be done!!

My baby A has always been head down and baby B has always been breech. Well I went in for an ultrasound today and baby B is now head down... he flipped at 36 weeks, so you probably still have some time. The doctor was shocked since each of my babies are measuring almost 6 pounds and I am a small person, he has no idea how that baby did a full flip!

my baby b was breech the entire pregnancy until last week (at 32 weeks) and now both babies are head down....my ob said they could still flip positions between now and the birth! i think the trend is that after 30 weeks or so they won't tend to change positions, but anything's possible. and like i said, one of mine was breech until 32 weeks. good luck!

Yup. My doc and multiples midwife were both telling me just today that they've had Mom's scheduled for c-section due to breech, and when the Mom's come in, they've turned-the MORNING of the birth. There's still time! :D Hang in there!

My Baby B went breech at around 30 weeks but flipped back 2 weeks later.
Hopefully, your baby B is just playing around and will get back in line.
    He's just being rebellious. LOL
