I really want to deliver vaginally for so many reasons.... I want to be able to bond with each baby immediately afterwards, breastfeed right away, it's better for their lungs, and I won't have to recover from c-section weeks after. I am worried about Baby B though since he is in the breech position. My doctor said that they would try to turn him after baby A is delivered but that it doesn't always work. DOes anyone have any opinions of been through this?

Also, does anyone have an old wives tales on how to make baby turn before labor?

That's a tough one. How far along are you? Sometimes babies will turn on their own, so there may still be time.

That is how my guys were. A was head down and B was breach. I wanted a c-section because a vaginal birth scared me senseless. I ended up going vaginally and I am so glad I did. Baby A, Jackson practically slid out. Three pushes and he was out. Baby B, was a different story. It took 48mins for him to come out and it was fanny first. I had two nurses pushing on my belly and the DR reached up and pulled him out. Thanks to the epi I had no pain and the boys and I went home 2 days later. I am really glad I ended up going vaginally. I opted for a C-section. My OB felt more comfortable with it, as he's seen too many twin deliveries turn complicated - Baby A delivered vaginally followed by an emergency-C for Baby B. The thought of possibly recovering from both kinds of deliveries at once was NOT appealing to me at all. I felt safer going ahead and opting for the C-section - both for me and the babies. I'm really glad I did. I was afraid I'd regret not experiencing (or at least attempting) a vaginal birth, but I have no regrets whatsoever. Baby A had no complications at all, whereas Baby B needed a bit of oxygen for a few minutes immediately after delivery. Neither spent time in the NICU, and we all came home together 4 days later. I was 35w4d.

    HTH!

My Twin B was like that but I was determined to NOT have a c- section. He turned the right way after Twin A came out. I had the epidural and they were ready for an emergency c-section just in case. But everything turned out okay and Twin B slid right down like he was supposed to and came out.

Mine were the same as yours baby a vertex, baby b breach. I tried for vag birth, and was in labour and pushing for about 19hrs, and just plain wore myself out, so after 19hrs with very little progress on pushing baby a out, we opted for a csection. It would have been my preference to do a vag birth, but it wasn't in the cards for me. Turns out when they did the csection they were quite pleased with their decision as baby b who was breach was 7lbs, they said that would have been awfully hard for me to have done without the csection.
My dr also recommended epidural during labour, which I did.

Mine turned at 36 weeks! You never know...

I did have a vaginal breech delivery though since she turned after her sister was born.

My babies were positioned just like yours. It was my doctor's recommendation to do a c-section and I was fine with that. DH asked them to do an u/s right before delivery to see if the babies had moved. They hadn't, so at 37wk4d I had a planned c-section that went perfectly. I have no regrets on how I delivered either. Good luck!!

Mine also were positioned like yours. Baby A came right out with a couple pushes and baby B's foot came out right after. They pushed her foot back in, grabbed the other foot, and pulled her right out. I didn't feel a thing since I had an epidural but my girls were pretty small too (4 pounds). Baby B had some bruising around her hips but otherwise was completely perfect.

My Baby B flipped from head down to transverse to head down to transverse the other way at the 37 week mark. I opted for a vaginal delievery, right after Baby A was born Baby B flipped breech but the doc quickly flipped her back and she was born vaginally 7 minutes later.

I think you need to find out how comfortable your ob is with a possible breech extraction, some docs will do it and some won't. Also my ob said she felt more comfortable trying vaginally b/c Baby B was alot smaller than Baby A, so essentially he cleared the path!!

My baby A was vertex and baby B was breach all of my pregnancy. Just shy a few days of 35 weeks I had u/s and she was still breach...then a few days later I was going to deliver and she was head down. I delivered at 35 weeks 2 days....I felt a lot of moving that day so she might have flipped at the last minute. I have heard that sometimes after Baby A comes there is more room for Baby B to flip. I chose to deliver by c-section.

I really wanted to experience a vaginal birth but had no choice. My bp and gestational diabetes were causing so many issues, the choice was made for me. I had my scheduled c-section upped by a few days as result. It was terrible to recover from but I know it was best for my babies. A was vertex and B was breach by 36 weeks.

See what happens and take it from there. It may be the case that B may turn or the decision to have a c-section may be made for you. Some OBs feel comfortable doing a breach delivery, most do not.

The important thing: don't pin your hopes on a vaginal birth. Just prepare yourself for both options psychologically and you'll do fine. One never really knows what will happen until delivery day comes.

My baby A was breech, and baby B was transverse, so I never had a chance at my vaginal birth. Like you, I couldn't fathom having one vaginally, and then still having to have a c-section. I guess I'm in the minority, but I wanted a C-section. I felt it was so easy! And although Day 2 and 3 after birth were tough, I didn't find my recovery to be that bad. I still fully took care of the babies. Good luck!

I chose to have a scheduled c-section. My OB said there was a 50/50 chance of being able to deliver them both vaginally. I knew that was just a guess, but I figured that my OB's inclination to do a c-section was going to be a big factor in whether I wound up having one. She also said that she was not willing to do a breech extraction (at least, not in my case). And I really didn't want to labor for however many hours, possibly deliver one baby, and then wind up having an emergency C.

As it turned out, Amy (baby B, who was breech) was wedged so tightly under my ribs that even with a c-section, they really had to yank her out. So my OB said she didn't think it would have been possible to turn her for a vaginal delivery.

The c-section went very smoothly, and while I didn't enjoy the recovery at all, I survived. And it was definitely nice, in the weeks leading up to my c-section, to know exactly when I was going to deliver.

I had the same decision to make. I was worried about Baby B anyway - IUGR and such...I really didn't want a c-section, but once I decided to have one, all the worry about the babies got SOOO much better. I had a little harder recovery (still not THAT bad) and I feel it was the best for the babies. It was only the start of the sacrifices I've made for the twins.

Good luck - it's not a fun decision!

eta: I nursed one for 45 min in the recovery and the next one for 40 minutes right afterwards. I was worried about nursing and bonding too - that was never an issue! What would have been a bigger issue was if I had tried a vaginal delivery and had an emergency section (which is always a possibility) - the recovery and bonding delay is much larger then.

It was a really hard decision for me. My Dr. told me the risks, but was perfectly ok trying vaginal, as long as I understood that I might end up with an emergency c section of the DD didn't turn once my son was out. While I was trying to decide, I was watching a show on TLC all about twins, that followed parents through twin pregancy and birth. There was a mom on there who faced this situation, and they opted for vaginal birth. Baby A came out fine, they tried to turn Baby B, and were unable to do so. They had to deliver the baby breech, and her chin got stuck on her way out of the birth canal. She was trapped without oxygen, and now has permanent brain damage as a result. For me this was the turning point. This is a very rare occurence, and many women go vaginal with one breech, and everything turns out great, BUT seeing this pushed me the other way, and I had a great c-section experience. Easy recovery, and I never looked back. Good luck, it was a real struggle deciding what we should do.

Mine were positioned the same as yours. I delivered Baby A vaginally with no problems & Baby B 6 minutes later by breech extraction. The doctor just reached in, grabbed his feet & pulled him out (and he was the bigger of the two at 7 lbs 13 oz). I had an epidural so I didn't really feel anything and I went home 2 days later, no problems for me or the babes.

I delivered at 37 weeks. Same as you Vertex and breech. I delivered them both vag. Vertex baby was 7 pds and breech was 8 pds. She wouldn't turn even thought they tried so I delivered her just as. I am glad I delivered vaginal and would never change it, and I had a big baby. So give it a try. They will most likely have you deliver in an emergency area so if it doesn't work out you will be in good hands. Its worth the try. If you really want to go vag. Go vag :)

Is your doctor trained in and will he do breech extraction? Mine was, and has done it so I would have felt comfortable doing vaginal. However, if he was not trained in it I probably would opt for the c-section since I really wouldn't want 1 vaginal, 1 c-section

My Dr. didn't give me a choice, I had to have a c-section, he wouldn't do a vaginal delivery with one twin being breach. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I was up and down my stairs at my house the day came home. I felt better after surgery than I did the entire time being pregnant. The 1st 3 days were tough, but totally managable. I ended up having an emerg. c-section anyway because fluid was low at my 36 week u/s. I also didn't want to labor for twin A and end up with a c-section anyway for twin B if something went wrong. I felt safer with the c-section for the babies' well being.

I had my twins a month ago. Baby A was head down, Baby B was transverse breech. I delivered both in the operating room vaginally, with a large medical team there in case I needed a c-section. Once Baby A was out, they hooked up an ultrasound machine to my stomach, and while I pushed, one of the doctors turned Baby B. As the epidural had worn off by this point, it was definitly a little painful, but he slid out so fast that I didn't even realise he'd been born!! He was born three minutes after his sister, and that part couldn't have been easier. Baby A was 6lbs 11oz, and Baby B was 6lbs 14oz, and they were born at exactly 38 weeks.

A month later, and I'm so glad I didn't end up with a c-section. I feel really good, and if given the choice, I would definitely do everything the same way again. Of course though, it really depends on your individual situation, and what is best for you and the babies, and what you feel comfortable with.

I had also seen a video/show with baby B getting "stuck" in a breach vaginal delivery - which also scared me and esp. my DH. I know this is a small percentage, however, that is what the Dr. said about twins with Clomid. I learned not to play around with small percentages! Therefore, we decided on a C-Section. Delivered at 36+4 with no complications. Their 5 min apgar's were 9 and 10.

If your doctor is supportive, experienced, and confident, and you are comfortable with possibly needing an emergency C, you should go that route. In my case (same positions although B was transverse not breech), the doctor said the policy was to do a C. My family friend who's an OB said that with twins in general, at least in his experience, they like to deliver twins vaginally when they're both head down, and otherwise the C is the least risky. I was worried enough about my daughter's growth (it had slowed down) so the C seemed like the safest route for her. I'm glad we did the C, although my recovery was a bit difficult for the first week.

Baby A was vertex and Baby B was vertex as well, but after A was born, B decided to turn, so my OB pulled her out by her feet. The nurse told me that if it had been any other doc, I would have had a C-section for Baby B. Thank goodness my OB was on-call that day! Good luck!

I went vaginal and as you can see from my siggy, they were born 7hrs apart on different days  I was induced and had baby a with no complications and he was 5lb12oz, then they gave me terbutaline to relx my uterus to try to flip baby b (complete breach), they were able to flip her, but the terbutaline worked a little too well and my body thought I was no longer in labor and my cervix went back to 0cm's. So back to l&d for me to be re-induced for baby b.......7 long hours later she made her appearence. Had it been really any other ob they most likely would have made me had a c-sec after waiting so long for baby b, glad it was my OB!!!!!

I had a super smooth vaginal delivery of one vertex baby and one breech. Baby A was born in 3 pushes, Baby B was pulled out by her feet 3 mins later. I had one small tear and recovered great. I'm so glad I chose to go that way but it helps to have an OB backing you up. This was also my 3rd vaginal delivery which made it easier.

I am actually at 36 wks today. Both my girls are currently in the vertex presentation. I've talked with my doc and we've decided to try for a vaginal delivery. The doc tells me that there is a 20% chance of the second baby turning to the breech presentation after the first is delivered. So there's a 20% possibilty that I will have a vaginal delivery AND a c-section. That's a pretty big fear of mine.

I guess there's always a chance to be taken even if they are presented in the 'ideal' vertex/vertex for a vaginal delivery. It really depends on what you want to do. As for me.. I'm going for it. As much as I loath the thought of a c-section, I'm going to take my chances and hope for the best possible result.

I hope I didn't scare you at all.

Baby A was vertex and Baby B was transverse. We decided vaginal and hoped Baby B would turn vertex since it was thought she was the bigger twin (they were actually exactly the same weight). She turned breech after Baby A was born. The doctor maneuvered her a bit and Baby B was born vaginally, but frank breech.

That was me! I delivered vaginally knowing that it could be an emergency c-section if something went wrong. Baby A came out great, they tried to Turn Baby B but she didn't want to so she came out Feet First :D Baby B was the bigger baby too by half a pound and it still went fine. There were 7 minutes between the girls and everything was great. There is always the possiblity of a C-section but it is like that with any pregnancy. If you want to go for it and feel good about your OB I say do it. It was a great experience for us.

i had a vaginal birth and A -charlotte was fine she was head down; Eve-B was breech and she was a forcep delivery; My sweet baby girl had to be resistated:( she came out purple and was foaming at the mouth(we dont know for sure if it was the forceful delivery) I am very happy to be given the choice of vaginal birth thou; if i knew she would be in danger; i would def have gone C-section route--both in NICU for 7 days
I didnt get to bfd them for 2 wks; i had pumped and bottle feed in the NICU; they both now are good bfders and bottle feeders:) also i didnt get to see Eve for hours she was in the oxygen CPAC and we didnt get to hold them for a day; both are great babies who love to snuggle:) despite thier rough start:)
I heard you can try to move a breech baby with your hands and feet on all four? maybe someone can clarify that:)
GL either delivery can be wonderful or not what you expected; but 2 healthy babies is the outcome:)

I was in the same situation with same positions, I was so close to choosing c-sect. but I chose vaginal and I AM SOOO HAPPY I DID! I had a DS 15 mo. prior and felt that things weren't the same down there but let me tell ya things were easy with him but even easier with the girs. 1 1/2 pushes for both and I healed so much qicker. Was walking and feeling well down there within a few days. Now I don't know if that is becuase it was my 2nd delivery or not, but I know how hard it is to make that decision. Just remember they say c-sect. healing time is alot longer. GL with your decision! ALso, baby b was still breech after baby a was delivered but the dr. turned her externallly which I didn't even feel (had an epidural).

and he stayed head down - happened 2 days before they were born at 37 weeks!
