Perhaps someone can assist me... at my last peri appointment, I was told that Baby A is on the left and breech and Baby B is on the right (so they are side by side) and is head down.

Here's where it gets interesting... the sono tech took FOREVER to figure out which was Baby A and which was Baby B... she wasn't sure and admitted as much! it didn't sit right with me when she told me which was on the left and which was on the right and I couldn't be sure so I didn't say anything. When I got home, I pulled out my ultrasound pics that they had given me before and realized it was because she switched which was Baby A and which was Baby B!! Twin A, I was told, was on the right and not the left! and Baby A is the one HEAD DOWN!

So here's my question.. did the sono tech mix them up or did they switch places?! Can they even really switch positions like that?

The reason this irks me is because we're getting to see their personalities with having so many ultrasounds done and I know that Lefty (since the whole A and B has me confused, I've gotten to calling them for now Lefty and Righty LOL) is the more active one and that Righty is facing my back and is not as active except during the evenings. We've kinda sorta have names for the girls due to their personalities but I am so confused as to which is which due to the possible switching of which is which.. so anywhooo!!!

I know I rambled and not sure if I made much sense LOL but if anyone can decipher my post and give me some insight, that'd be great! :)

My understanding is that whichever one is closest to the cervix at any given point is "A".. so it's possible that what used to be baby B muscled it's way down closer to the cervix? I was told at my last appointment that by next time "A" could be "B" soon given how much they've been shifting around. Like you, I have always had one on the right and one on the left, so that's how I think of them too!

That's my understanding too. And if you have a c/s they could very well end up taking B out first.

My girls switched places at some point. Because their levels of amniotic fluid were so different it was easy to tell them apart. Olivia was baby B, way up high and Jo was lower, until one ultrasound where the tech discovered they had flip- flopped. It was confusing because that day I had an NST and they labelled them A/B, but at the u/s an hour later we found out about about the switch, so they had to go back and switch the labels on the NST tapes.

I always think about Jo as baby A and Olivia as baby B because that's how they were for so long, even though technically at birth Olivia was baby A and Jo was baby B.

Our boys were switched at 26 weeks. At first I thought the u/s tech was wrong, but looking back over the u/s pictures I am now more convinced than ever that the boys did indeed switch spots.

Ahhhh!! Gotcha! That totally makes sense! Thanks everyone for clearing that up! I think I'll stick to just calling them Righty and Lefty for now LOL :)

I guess that I'm lucky having one of each!! He's got a pointer that she doesn't have so if they switch I will be able to tell in an u/s!!! :D    ;)

Yep Baby A is whoever is closest to the opening at the u/s :) They probably won't switch sides completely, unless they share a sac, but they can switch up and down :)

My girl was baby A for my first u/s at 18 wks. Ever since then she's been baby B and my boy has been baby A!

It's really confusing because I feel baby B closest to my cervix! That's because that baby is breech. I still get a little confused but they haven't moved for me!

For most of my pregnancy, twin A was on my right and twin B on my left. Around 7 months or so the baby on my left (who was bigger) was closer to my cervix so they switched her label to twin A. They were still on the same sides but the one on the left scootched closer to the exit as she grew. I'd been calling them Apple and Banana, the first A and B words I could think of, and even though they switched designations, I kept calling them that until they were born and got real names.
