At my 27 week ultrasound, both babies were measuring about 28 1/2 weeks (almost 3 lbs. each). I had gained about 30 lbs at that point and pretty much only in my belly. When not pregnant, I am pretty slender although I am 5'8 and husband is 6'4 so we could just be having tall kids. My doctor said she was happy to see this but would also "be watching." Is there a concern that babies are too big for their age? I know the ultrasounds aren't completely accurate but just wondering. I don't have gestational diabetes which I know is one risk of growing babies who are too big.

at my last u/s my babies were in the 86th and 93rd %tile. I am 5'7" was 123lbs pre-pregnancy and had gained 46lbs at that point (i'm all belly too.) All the drs have seemed very pleased with that. There is a correlation between higher weight gain and bigger healthier twins (and less risk of preterm labor.) Generally you should try to gain 50lbs, although my ob wants me gaining 60 since I was underweight.

as long as you dont have gd and the ultrasounds are looking good, there is no need to worry.

That was always my thinking on it as well. :good: My two were always measuring bigger then normal and my doctor was not concerned and nothing was wrong. Hopefully that is the same case for you.

Like you said u/s measurements can be off. I wouldn't worry about it at this point. I would rather the babies be measuring bigger than smaller.

At 16 weeks mine were measuring 17w6d and 17w5d. I have another u/s at 20 weeks and am curious to see if they are still measuring bigger. My two previous pregnancies resulted in big babies and they both always measured bigger as well.

My babies always measured big too, at 28 weeks mine measured roughly what yours did. There was never any concern.

I'm 33weeks and my babies measure 5.5lbs each. I have gained 55lbs thus far and the doctors and not concerned about my weight, and are ecstatic about the size of the babies. I don't have GD either. I would not worry - I would definitely rather them measure larger than smaller. That being said, I'm having a c-section at 36 weeks, so thankfully I won't have to deal with 9lb babies at 38-40 wks.

My boys always measured ahead, too, and were 7 lbs at birth, so not extraordinarily large for newborns (although people always add "big for twins" but they were full term at 37 weeks). My singletons were 10+lbs so I guess I do make "big babies" but those singletons always measured "on target".

My oldest was quite large (over 9lbs) but born late. My twins always measured 2 weeks ahead. They were about 1lbs at 20 weeks, 2lbs11oz (both) at 26 weeks, 4lbs5oz and 4lbs6oz at 30 weeks, lower 6lbs range at 34 weeks and they were born at 7lbs11oz and 7lbs10oz. I didn't have GD, and there was never a concern. BTW, I "only" gained 43lbs, so that doesn't mean much at all. My u/s were consistent over time, and they turned out to be quite right. Delivered both vaginally without a problem.
