Babies gained 3 pounds in one month. Is this ok?

I went to my maternal fetal specialist today for a final ultrasound before our boys are delivered next Monday. They have estimated their weights to be 7 pounds, 13 ounces and 7 pounds, 3 ounces (I am 36 weeks, 3 days)! The last time I went in (4 weeks ago) they were both 4 pounds & some ounces. I have only gained a couple pounds this month.

I asked the doctor if this is normal and he said "no". I asked if I should be concerned and he said the only thing he could think of that would be a problem was gestational diabetes but I was tested for that and passed.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?? I am thrilled the boys are so big and hopefully healthy and it certainly explains why my body has been in unbelievable pain the last couple weeks but it does seem so strange to me

Those weights sound fine to me. You might just have some good sized babies and remember too that the U/S can always be off a little bit on weight estimates too. Congratulations on making it so far and YAY that you get to see your babies soon!!

Ultrasounds can be off. I would try not to worry about it. It sounds like they are doing great!

I agree with PP's - u/s are notoriously unreliable in weight determination. Either your last one or this one may be a bit off and showing such a huge gain. It sounds like you've got two healthy little ones on their way - don't worry!

The later in pregnancy the more difficult to measure. I am not saying they won't be big, but if they're significantly bigger than before than the measurements are likely to be off. Mine measured ahead consistently (so slightly different) and gained about 2 pounds per month. At 34 weeks they were lower 6lbs range and they were upper 7lbs range 4 weeks later. Mine were 4lbs5oz and 4lbs6oz at 30 weeks, so if yours were this at 32 weeks (which is pretty normal, average) ... I would be really surprised if they're now way above average. Just my guess. Either way, it looks like you'll going to have pretty nice size babies.
