At what age did you first hear the precious mama or dada?

My dh and I laugh, thinking it would be funny if they said the dog's name before ours! [IMG]

Also, is it true that they usually say dada first?

Cooper said DaDa for the 1st time about 3 weeks ago but I'm not convinced he knows what he's saying [IMG] Dh will tell you he knows exactly what he's saying [IMG]

He hasn't really said it anymore in the past week. I think it's just an easier sound to make. Eli still hasn't said anything.

My ds first word was CAR at 15 months. He was a very late talker but started in full sentences when he did start (and he has not stopped since!)

Ds said dada first too at 6.5months, and I KNOW he doesn't know what he is saying! Luckily in our language {Romanian} dad isn't what they call there dad...but just as I was happy about that, he started saying tata which is what they call dh, but still he has no clue! [IMG]

I can't remember when she said it but she was pretty much on track (not early and not late). It's not helping she's bi-lingual although she's doing great (in English mainly) right now.

Don't laugh ... her first word was "Elmo" ...

Both of our girls said Mama and Dada after already saying at least 5 other words including Uh,Oh and Kitty. They didn't say their first words until almost 16 months old so it was between 16-17 months that they said our names.

They babbled things that sounded like it for months before hand because they babbled constantly but it didn't mean anything to them.

I can't remember off the top of my head when ds1 said his firstword, but it was a dog's name. [IMG]

Chloe started saying mama around 6 months old, only here and there though. She started saying it loud and clear regularly right around 8 months. This week, she just started saying dada. Bryce started saying Uh-Oh just as he turned 8 months. He's working on mama now [IMG].

Emilie has been saying dada and baba and ha-duh for about 1 month now, no mama yet. [IMG] Trevor just started saying mama on Sunday. [IMG]

Ours said "dada" at about 7 months. Then the next word was Kasey--which is grandpa's dog! [IMG] Then mama! I was not happy! [IMG]

DS just said "mama" two weeks ago. He's definitely working on his two-syllable speech. Lots of random sounds come from him. DD still makes single-consonant sounds only.

I constantly makes the following sounds to them (I feel like a baby I am doing it so much!): baba, dada, mama, lala, gaga

Josie has been waving for a while now, and just recently started saying something that sounds like "hi" or "bye" along with the waving. She also says mama and dada, but I don't think she knows that I'm "mama" and dh is "dada." Bella just babbles - no real words yet.

both boys have been saying mama and dada (although I'm not sure they are attaching specific meaning w/it) for several months now - have also added in baba - which they use alot while having their bottle, or while looking for each other - and say "Hey" to anyone entering the room, or on the telephone...

i am sure a speech specialist can confirm or deny this but I am almost positive that the da sound is easier for babies to say then the ma and that is why dada is said first

Payton said mama at 8 months old. She also says dada, and baba. But Taylor hasn't spoken a word.
