The coos switched over to non-stop babbles a few weeks ago, and at first they just sounded like a bunch of mush...gliglama sort of things, but now they both have taken to mamamamamamamamamama, especially when they are upset. I just wondered if mamama was a common first babble. I know they're too young to really be saying mama, but it's crazy when they say it: first thing in the morning...happy noises and mamamamama until I come in and pick them up, when they're really hungry and it's taking me too long to get set up to nurse, and lately when I leave the room with someone else holding them...mamamamamama and then the tears start to come. My mother-in-law thinks it's so funny because at her house, DD will scan the room and if she can't see me, she yells out MAAM and puts on the worst little frown until I walk back into the room! DH is waiting for his dadadada :)

What sounds did yours make at first?

All of it. Ba's, Da's, Ma's, Ga's. Most of the time they werent strung together more just plain one syllable. It took mine a bit of time to start stringing the consonant sounds together. Sounds like yours are well on their way.

both girls both said "ma ma" first. I sort of made sure of it, since I never said da da to them until they had already said ma ma first. I figured my dh could teach them his name... they would often cry mama when sad and dada when happy.....

Dada was both of my girls first word. They still only say "mama" if they are whining but will run around the house happily screaming "Da-doo"

At around 4.5 months Rose would say Mum.. mum...mu... but only while crying, lol.

Now, Alyssa likes to make loud sounds. Sometimes it sounds like she's saying "Hey youuu!!" or "Ooh yeahhh!!"

    LOL

Mine don't do any of the consonant followed by an A sound, but little Eli always says "Hey!" and some other sounds that sound like nonsense words. Mark doesn't babble he just squeals.

A bit of everything here... DS loves dadadadada. I know it's just babbling anyway.

It all basically started at the same time (mama, dada, baba) but most of the time it is dadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadad!!!!!

Today when I dropped the boys off at daycare Clay waved and said "bye". Of course I didn't hear it, but the daycare teacher called me back in to see if he would do it again, but he wouldn't. The

Much to my chagrin it was "dada." And to this day despite every 10th word out of my mouth being "mama" they say dada constantly and only say "mama" when they want me to come get them out of something (like the crib). Stinkers. They make all kinds of other sounds now, too. My recent favorite - my oldest holds his hand out above his hand with all 5 fingers extended, brows drawn down, and says "SHOOSH!" He is very adamant about it, too. I have no idea what it means, but he does it often and those little lips stuck out in a very pronounced shooo are just so stinking cute.
