So I know we're still about 4 months away from Ben & Ella's first birthday, but I'm big on planning. Because if I don't plan while I have the time I'll be out of time once it rolls around. Plus older DS's fourth birthday is a month before the twins'. All of that to say, what are some ideas for how to combine a boy theme and a girl theme? I have a penchant for Elephants so I'd like to incorporate that because older DS's first bday was elephant themed also. I'm just at a loss.

So any ideas for a theme? Also any other suggestions for how to keep it smooth and tear free for the twins?

We had a zoo theme for their first. Elephants, lions, monkeys, and giraffes.

Our first b-day is coming up in the next couple of weeks (!!!, OMG) and we're having a VERY small party for just our immediate, close family. My son's name is Noah, so i'm planning a Noah's arc theme. Baby animals and an arc/boat.. depending what I find at the party store  DD is Sophie, which means wisdom... so we're thinking she'll be wise enough to be ok with a party themed after her brother's name  he he...

Honestly, I don't think they care too much as long as there is paper to crinkle, something to mush and eat and space to roam!

    GL planning

Haven't thought about the twins birthday yet. I still have several months but funny enough I already have my DD1's birthday planned for NEXT year! Her birthday is in Feb and we have had a Little Mermaid - Ariel party planned for a very long time. So this coming Feb that will be the theme. No changing it now. The circus comes to town every Feb around her birthday. I was thinking NEXT year I could take all the kids (the twins will be like 18mos then) to the circus for her birthday and have a circus theme party with popcorn, those peanut candy (not sure what they're made out of but they look like peanuts), hotdogs, ice balls, etc... That sort of thing. Maybe you could do something like that but on a toddler level?

Hmmm...You could do zoo animals, that would be cute. Or you could keep it simple, possibly doing it with just colors. For the boys first birthday I did blue/green. So one had cake with blue icing, the other with green. The napkins were blue/green, balloons, tablecloths, etc. And you could include the elephants as well. Make a blue elephant cake and a pink elephant cake.

    Here's for a boy:

    Here's for a girl:

    Have fun planing!
