So DD wants a 'snake' theme (with snake cake! and snake games) and DS wants an 'excavator' theme... same type of ideas... I have some good game ideas and am set on the cakes and favors. BUT I am torn, there is a group called "the Reptile Guys" here that will do bday parties for $150, they bring 8 animals and do a 45 min show, they are pretty cool. But will that make it more DD's party? Is that kind of entertainment necessary? I cannot think of a similar DS 'thing' to do at the party... and I don't want to spend $300.... What do you think??

hmmm, the only thing coming to mind is a sandbox or just a big pile of sand and some tractor/diggers to play with in it. If you don't have the tractors I suppose this could get expensive,,,hmmmm

If the reptile guys are really cool, and you don't mind spending that, I would probably do it -- and not worry about making it even. I'm sure DS and his friends will like the animals just as much! There probably won't be time for another major activity anyway, at a little kids' party.

I know what you mean, though -- I had a "princesses and pirates" party for my DD's 5th birthday, and I tried to balance out the activities. But, the major craft was an ocean-in-a-bottle, which was definitely pirate-themed.

I'm envious that you have a little girl who likes snakes (not that I'm overly fond of them, LOL) -- I am so friggin' sick of princesses! :)

We have only had jumpy houses at our birthday parties and I always get a neutral non theme one. For instance our themes last year were Hello Kitty and Transformers, but the jumpy house was just a primary castle one. But I think in this instance I still might just book the reptile guys. I am sure all will have fun and then maybe next year the other child can have the entertainment?

I, too, say if you want to spend the $, go with the reptile guy. DS's friends (and he, himself, most likely), will love it, too. And I do agree that I wouldn't feel the need to "make it even". Just be sure to tell them the reptile guy is for BOTH of them. And you can say that when they excavate things, they often find snakes and other reptiles

Do you have a sand box? Can the excavators dig up some toy snakes?
