Sorry it's taken so long to get on here, but this week has just been a blur of doctor appointments, bili-blankets, and Zantac!

So, last Thursday, I got to the hospital around 8:00pm. I was dilated 1 cm and about 50% effaced. They didn't give me the cytotec until midnight and told me they would check me in 6 hours. At 6:00, they came to check me and I was only dilated to 2 cm. They started the pitocin and a few hours later, I was dilated to 4 cm. The OB suggested they break my water and I asked him to wait until after my epidural (they had just paged the anesthesiologist) b/c I knew it would make the contractions worse. I was having a LOT of back labor so the epi was definitely a necessity for me!

The anesthesiologist came in and did my epi but hit a vein. He apologized and had to do another one. He wanted me to lay on my left side afterwards and then switch to my right side after 15 minutes so it would affect both sides. Well, it definitely worked on the left side. My left leg was completely dead and useless. But I could feel EVERYTHING on the right side. By then, the contractions were coming every 2 minutes and I felt so much of it in my back, it was killing me. He came in and adjusted the epi, but after another 45 minutes, it was still doing nothing to my right side. So he offered me a third epi which I gladly accepted. :) When he got that one done, he said he was about 95% sure it would work b/c it was so much easier to get in the right place. So we waited about half an hour and it was still doing nothing. He made an adjustment to that one and we waited some more. (He was really great and stayed right in there with me.) He was at a loss and said that in 15 years of doing his job, he'd seen this happen maybe twice. After another 30 minutes, I was just about ready to ask for a fourth one. Then, suddenly, the contractions stopped hurting! I felt a lot of pressure on my cervix when I had one, but the pain was gone.

I was just finally able to relax and they came in to check me again. I had jumped from a 4 to a 7 and when she checked me, my water broke. (They had tried to break it after my second epi but apparently just got a little pocket of it.) They told me to try to rest for a couple of hours and they would check me again. I dozed off and about 10 minutes later, my eyes popped open and I told DH to call the nurse b/c I had to start pushing. The nurses and OB came in and checked me and I was definitely ready to go. I started pushing while they were still putting gowns on and getting the bed set up b/c the pressure was SO much. I had lost track of time by then but DH had text messaged his sister and BIL at 5:00 and said "She's getting ready to push." Avery was born at 5:10! It took no time at all once he was finally ready to come out!

He was born on February 15, weighed 7lbs 8oz, and was 20 inches long. His apgar scores were 9 both times. And he is a BFing champ! He latched on the very first time and hasn't wanted to let go since. :)

So now we're dealing with reflux and jaundice, but we're getting a handle on it. I've been dealing with a lot of back pain (thanks to the three epidurals!) but I guess that's what they make Motrin for. I've only got a few pics b/c my mom and BIL still haven't emailed me the ones they got. But here are a few:

YAY, I'm glad to see you posting! I hope the jaundice and reflux get better soon! That's crazy about those epidurals. My cousin's wife had that happen with her last baby...she felt everything on her right side, but left was numb. Weird. I'm glad they got it adjusted in time though. Sounds like the birth went well. he is just a beautiful little baby. How are the girls adjusting?

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

The girls are doing okay with it. They love to give him kisses and sing to him. I've noticed they are acting out a little more than usual, but I think a big part of that is b/c MIL has been staying with us and they're used to getting their way all the time with her. But we seem to already be getting back into our old routine.

What a sweetie!!!! He is just too cute!!!!

With both of my pregnancies, it's taken at least 3, if not 4 times to get the epi in. Not fun while they are poking and prodding, but so worth it when it kicks in!!

All 3 of my kids had to go on the bili-blankets, at least while they are this young, they sleep a lot and it's not too bad, but I hate that you have a new baby home and you cannot hold him!!!

    Contrats and Enjoy!!!
