I want to start my girls on avacado today. I have been introducing the individual fruits and veggies weekly. I have two avocados in the fridge and was thinking of putting them in the food processor. What is the best way to keep them so I can feed them all week? They turn brown so quick!

The only way I know to keep them from going brown is to put some lemon juice in there and I wouldnt do that for babies. You can just mash it with a fork, so I would do one day at a time.

You can freeze some of it for later in small 1 or 2oz sizes. The only part that turns brown is what is exposed to air. So a tall container with a small surface area would minimize browning, then you could scrape that part off. But it doesn't actually do any harm, you could just mix it back in.

My DH and I eat avacados often, and when we only eat half, if we leave the seed in and cover it quickly and very tightly with plastic wrap, it gets very minimal discoloring (if any at all). I think that mashing it with a fork would work for you LO, so maybe you could just make enough for that day. GL! I can't wait to give my girls avacado! (couple weeks.....)

Mashing it with a fork will be just fine - you don't have to puree it completely. Also, if you're ready for finger food, you can chop up the avocado and then coat the pieces with ground flax seed or ground up cheerios. I do this with avocado and bananas and it makes it so much easier for my littles to pick them up.

As for storing it, plastic wrap is key. I put it in a bowl and then smush the plastic wrap down so that no air can get in. Have fun!

Thanks! I mashed it, froze it right away and defrosted it in the microwave right before feeding. No browning! My girls loved it!!
