So, it strikes me after my soda post that I have no idea about a lot of stuff!

When do boys and girls start taking showers and baths before school (primping?) I can't remember when I did!

I have a friend who's girls let her blow dry their hair everyday before school! (Preschool and 1st grade).

When did you start your boys in boxers or boxer briefs? I'm thinking about some boxer briefs for Martin's next underwear, wonder if he'll go for it after being in briefs since potty training?!

Diane-My oldest DD is 9.5 and she takes her showers at night. There is no way we would have enough time in the morning, right now, for her to take a shower and dry her hair. She started taking showers by herself around 6, but I still had to check her hair to make sure all the shampoo was out since it's so thick. And I definitely can't imagine having enough time to give baths before school. She does fix her hair each day before school, but I wouldn't call that primping, hopefully I have a few more years before she does that.

Sorry, can't help you with the boxer or boxer briefs since Trevor is not in them yet. But I would think you could try them now and see how Martin likes them. :)

We do showers here - with parental help - but at night. They use less water, so I don't give my guys a choice. I'm a mean mommy.

I personally dislike boxers on men :pardon: , so I don't imagine I'll buy them for the boys unless they specifically ask. I like them in their little tighty whiteys.

My oldest boy started wearing boxer briefs (I dislike regular boxers so I won't buy them!) about 7 yrs I think. My twin ds and K age ds are the same size (just barely a year apart) share undies and between them have two or three pairs of boxer briefs. I'd buy more but they have so many of the character ones right now I can't justify spending money on undies. When they need more, we'll phase over to boxer briefs.

The only one of mine to do morning showers is my oldest in 7th grade. But truthfully, she only does it in the am maybe twice a month if she didn't get it in the evening before. She'd have to get up too early (according to her!) to do it in the morning. At some point she'll get into makeup and having her hair a certain way so I'm sure we'll get to that point but not so far. My boys will pretty much always shower at night since there are five of them that have to use the bathroom in the mornings!

ETA: Not five boys! Five total kids to get ready in the morning!

My older kids all often shower in the mornings before school but sometimes they shower at night. They started showering on their own around 6 or 7. The actual primping, really caring what they looked like when they went to school in the morning has varied a bit. I would say it starts around puberty, depending on when that is for your child. Olivia didn't really care too much until she was 12 or 13, Tess is already starting to take the time to dry & straighten her hair and she's only 10. :pardon:

As for underwear, I prefer the boxer briefs, I'm not a fan of tighty whiteys. Luke has been wearing boxer briefs since he was 2, he's never worn anything else. They look so adorable on him.

Berkley just started wanting to primp before school this past year - so about 8 for us. Until then, she'd roll out of bed, get dressed, brush her teeth and let Mommy do her hair.

Brandon LOVES boxer briefs, especially the Gymboree ones, he's probably being wearing them for 2 yrs.
    Beau doesn't care for them.

Leah is showering at night either with one of us or one of us is standing in the bathroom guiding her a bit. Her hair does not get clean in the tub.

The boys are wearing boxer briefs and banana benders right now. I had some boxers in my hand the other day and wondered about them. Thanks for asking the question. All seems like personal preference.

My son started taking showers around 2nd grade I think. He would actually just tell me what he wanted to do and I would fix it for him, sometimes a bath, sometimes a showe, then it just progressed to showers only. He has been wearing boxeer briefs since I don't know when (5 maybe?). He still wears them; I got him the boxers once and he hated them. Luke's in this stage now where he just gets in the shower and lets the water run over him..doesn't wash. What's up with that..why get in the shower and get all wet and not wash...is that a boy thing..gross! We have to constantly smell his hair and body to see if he's washed and then make him get back in the shower.

I've been blowdrying my girls hair for about 6 months now. It was out of necessity really, they got a super short cut and the only way I could get it to look like a rat wasn't living in it was to blow dry it while curling it under. But they by no means ask for it to be done because they don't particular care for it.

I think it'll be awhile before we go to showers in the morning. I'm thinking more like middle school (my oldest is in 1st grade and has long and thick hair that takes a long time to dry). We have a hard enough time getting out the door in the morning as it is. As for the boxers - Gabe likes boxers or boxer briefs better than the briefs. He's been wearing them since last summer, so he was about 3.5 or so. I like the boxer briefs better than the boxers b/c they don't hike up in the leg area.

My kids sometimes take a shower in the AM, sometimes in the PM. And her hair dries so fast that we just let it air dry before we pull it up.

Nolie's been wearing boxer briefs since he was potty trained. He has both those and regular briefs, but he prefers the boxer briefs. He had one pair of boxers, but didn't seem to like them.

I honestly think my kids will be in high school before we do morning showers! We have one shower in this house and I get it first! :blbl:

But as an aside, the kids now pretty much shower independently. I have to turn the water on for them so it is the right temp, but they can wash and shampoo and rinse all by themselves. Then they turn off the water and call for us to dry them up. I love showers but the kids still enjoy a nice long bath.

And funny you should mention...Ben JUST asked for some boxers today. He wants to be like daddy. Maybe I should try the boxer briefs though first.

can't speak for the showers yet as we still do baths (and we're just 4) but Ian's had boxer briefs since he potty trained and much prefers them to briefs (in fact he doesn't have any briefs anymore)...the briefs were cutting the inside of his legs where they met at his hip/crotch and he doesn't have that issue with boxer briefs...

as for regular boxers - he only sleeps in those...

Can't help you with the boxers, but wanted to add, that at 9 the girls shower at night and brush/fix their hair in the morning. They still aren't too particular about it though. As long as it is brushed and clean, they are happy.

Lots of boys here and they mainly shower at night. My oldest (11) will sometimes shower in the am if he wasn't able to the night before. My 8 year old can NEVER shower before school. He's soooooo slow! My 6 yo twins have afternoon kindergarten so they have tons of time in the morning to bathe if we skip it the evening before. As an example. Last night I bathed my infant and toddler and then my twins got in the bath. My 8 yo got in a shower but my 11 year old had an activity that didn't get done until 8:30 so he got in the shower this morning before school. They were all clean for school, though. :)

For underwear, my boys all prefer different things. None of them like boxers - at all! My oldest and my twins prefer briefs and my 8 yo likes boxer-briefs. I couldn't care less what type of underwear they wear, just as long as they are comfortable in them!

None of my boys 'primps' at all. In fact, we have the opposite of primping. The other day my 8 yo got in the shower, got out and put his dirty clothes back on - including the underwear he had just taken off..... :rotflmbo: That's the sort of thing I'm up against around here! Thankfully, though, they will all bathe when told to, they just would never think of it on their own yet!

hahaha!! Sounds like my oldest ds (he'll be 10 on Monday). I have to do the whole Cosby routine of "go into the bathroom, shut the door, turn on the water, take off your clothes (socks and underwear too), get into the shower, close the curtain, get your whole body wet (including your hair), use soap to wash all of your skin, use shampoo all over your hair (including the front along your forehead and around your ears), rinse all of the soap out of your hair/off your body, turn off the water, step out onto a towel not the bare floor, dry off, put on CLEAN underwear and clothes or pjs, pick up anything you left on the floor, then come out". Yes, I say some form of this almost every time he takes a shower. Oy! :catfight:

All 3 of my boys shower at night. There is not enough time in the morning to give all of them showers in the morning. We are lucky we make it to school on time now.

They all have been wearing boxer briefs since age 3. I bought 2 pairs of regular boxers for my 5 year old and one time he changed his clothes and put the boxers over his boxer briefs. He thought they were shorts. I didn't know he did this and made him put on pants for school. When he got home and changed I realized he was wearing 2 pairs of underwear all day. Poor guy.

We do all showers at night. The boys play sports & really need to get clean afterwards. All of the boys in the house wear boxer briefs. I bought them for my husband right after we got married & the boys started wearing them as soon as they were potty trained. Their butts look so darn cute in them!
