Just curious what your pedi recommends....

    Cheerios
    Puffs
    Cut up finger foods
    Meats
    Yogurt
    A 3rd solid meal (lunch)

    Thanks!

My girls are 8.5 months and I have already added puffs, cut up bananas, 3 solid meals a day, and just yesterday we started the chicken and rice baby food (which they liked). We haven't been to the pedi since their 6 month appt, so I am not sure what he recommends. I have just been "winging it"!!!

We have been giving them puffs for a week or two. We just put them on their tray and let them do what they want with them. Emma has started eating them but Mia still just plays. We have not added any of the other things yet.

I have only given stage 2 foods... no juice yet, no meats. My kids have no teeth and I am afraid to try puffs/cheerios/finger foods.... Kinda waiting for next appointment. Plus, they don't seem to grasp putting food in their mouth although I have never put something in front of them to try. We are on 3 meals a day (ped. wanted that by 9th month).

We were doing 3 meals at 6 months. Puffs and cheerios also at 6 months. I have not added much meat yet. I tried yogurt, and they spit up tons, so I am waiting on that. By 8 months, I had added a few cut up finger foods, and we are doing more now. [IMG]

we have been doing puffs for about 2 weeks now. I am paranoid though so I break the what is already small puff in half and give them each a half. They love it. Nothing cuter then watching them chew/gum this little puff! I dont know if I should be giving them these though because they cant grasp them and they wont put them in their mouth by themselves. They do open big though when they see I have one in my hand. They do melt so easily.

    Here's what we did:

    Cheerios/Puffs: 7.5 months
Cut up finger foods: 8.5 months
    Meats: 9 months
    Yogurt: 9 months
    A 3rd solid meal (lunch): 10 months

Mine were really raring to go on solid foods(they hated baby foods) and they are very independant. Jessy didn't even have any bottom teeth till 9 months or after. You just need to go with soft foods like noodles. Also make sure everything could be swallowed whole if need be(this helped with choking).

We added all that except yogurt a little after six months. Lunch is the third meal we added and I only give them cut up finger foods for that, I don't actually feed them. They don't have any teeth yet, but they do fine. The ped said no dairy yet at the 6 month appointment. My guess is we'll get the ok on that at the 9 month appt.

At almost 8 months, my boys get 1 solid meal a day (I split 2 jars between the two of them). I just started giving them Cheerios last week and started dinners (like chicken and rice, etc) a few days ago. I don't planning on adding more babyfood but will transition them to more table foods over time.

I haven't added yogurt yet because we were dealing with a dairy sensitivity for a while, and I've only recently been able to successfully add small amounts of dairy back into my diet.

    Cheerios: Nope
Puffs: Yes, I break them into smaller pieces. They don't do well at putting them in their mouth on their own so I help them out.
Cut up finger foods: I have cut up a little cheese. They love it!
Meats: I just give them a Stage 3 food tonight with chicken.
Yogurt: Yes, about a week ago. They like it.
    3rd solid: No

    Hope this helps!

Cheerios: OK as first finger food (whenever they're able to pick one up)
    Puffs: ditto
Cut up finger foods: Very soft ones OK whenever they can pick them up
    Meats: 9 or 10 months
    Yogurt: 9 months
A 3rd solid meal (lunch): I never asked about this, but we didn't add it until they started eating lunch at daycare, which was around 10 months. Before that they would have solids at about 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. (no dinner). Once they started eating lunch, we also started feeding them dinner at 5:30 or so.

    This is what I did:

Cheerios -- I think it was at about 10 months
Puffs -- Not until after a year
Cut up finger foods -- My guys weren't ready for finger foods that required a lot of chewing because they didn't get any teeth until after a year of age.
Meats -- Our pedi told us to start them at 6 months.
Yogurt -- I did Yogurt at 6 months.
A 3rd solid meal (lunch) -- We were on 3 solids a day at 6 months.

    Thanks! You're Welcome

Just curious.. those giving cheerios/puff - do your kids have teeth? I just don't think my kids are ready for it - for example, when I make their cereal a little too thick, they tend to gag on it - still getting used to tongue action I think.

cheerios - added at 9 months
puffs - added at 7 months
cut up finger foods - just now doing that at 10 months
meats - just started meat sticks this week; jar meat at 9 months AWFUL
yogurt - LOVE LOVE LOVE yobaby yogurt; added at 9 months
    3rd solid - 9 months; I think I am backwards because I added breakfast

I also wanted to add that we started a snack time around 4pm each day. This is when we do cheerios/puffs/arrowroot/nilla wafers. They also get to really practice sippy cup drinking on their own.

Teeth - DD has 0 teeth and DS has two which he got at the end of his 9th month

Nicole- One of my guys is so not ready for any kind of finger foods, so don't feel bad. I tried tiny bits of bananna today with both of them and Jacob gagged the second it hit his tongue and made the worst face. Nathan on the other hand, seems more ready and immediately chewed the tiny peice with his gums and swallowed, no problem.

Kelly and everyone- Our Dr said to look out for the pincer grasp before starting finger foods. Neither of my boys are doing it yet, but Nathan is trying. I'd say go slowly introducing new things. Thicken up the cereal and work your way up.Some babies like 3rd foods and possibly need the slower transition to chunky foods, some don't. Just keep trying, they can gag one day and not the next.

    I hope that helped.

DS has two teeth. DD has none.

We do cheerios, puffs, bananas, arrowroot cookies and we are starting avocado.

I have not tried yogurt or meats yet. We haven't added a 3rd meal.
