at what age do you start having them brush their own teeth? at what age should you be able to give them food on a plate rather than just right on the tray? at what age should they stop needing a high chair? at what age do you let them have free reign of the house (like no gates or anything)? thanks in advance!
at what age do you start having them brush their own teeth? I let them do a little around 2 years, but even now at four we still brush our girls teeth then they get their turn, I think our dentist said until 6 years at what age should you be able to give them food on a plate rather than just right on the tray? I would say around 18month/2 years we tried all the kinds that stick to the try but they never seemed to work at what age should they stop needing a high chair? Keep them in it as long as they are safe, I think we went to the boosters on the chair around 2 ( at what age do you let them have free reign of the house (like no gates or anything)? We only took down the gate to stairs and kitchen last year so about 3 1/2 amanda thanks in advance!
mine are 20months old, and i still brush their teeth, put food on their tray and use high chairs. they move freely about the house, but gates are still on all stairs.
at what age do you start having them brush their own teeth? I brush their teeth fist and then I give them the toothbrush to "practice" at what age should you be able to give them food on a plate rather than just right on the tray? My boys have been in booster seats at the kitchen table since 14-16m at which time they got plates, bowls and forks and spoons to eat on their own. At 2 they are starting to get the concept of eatting liquid type things with their spoons and doing very well. at what age should they stop needing a high chair? Highchair as long as they still fit booster till they are big enough to reach the table with out it? at what age do you let them have free reign of the house (like no gates or anything)? We dont have stairs in the house so we never had gates. I do have my bathroom doors shut unless someone needs in to go potty. but other then that they have free reign.
at what age do you start having them brush their own teeth? They started at 2 but I always either follow-up brush or brush first and then let them. They won't be doing this by themselves for a while. at what age should you be able to give them food on a plate rather than just right on the tray? They have had plates since about 1 1/2. I either use their plates or paper plates. I am not brave enough to give them my everyday plates. at what age should they stop needing a high chair? My son outgrew his high chair somewhere around 114-15 months or so (big boy over here). They went to boosters. We took the boosters down a little after two and they have done fine. They get up, we threaten, they sit back down (this continues throughout the meal) at what age do you let them have free reign of the house (like no gates or anything)? We just took down the last gate since they took it out of the wall. They are two and 1/2 and it has been down about a month. Hope this helps!
QUOTE at what age do you start having them brush their own teeth? Well my two are almost 2 and we are still brushing their teeth. We will probably let them try it around 2.5 or sooner when we feel they will be able to do it, but we will still brush their teeth after they do. QUOTE at what age should you be able to give them food on a plate rather than just right on the tray? My two have been using a plate since they started using a fork and spoon around 19 months. QUOTE at what age should they stop needing a high chair? We never had highchairs. Mine have always been in a booster. Now they are pushed up to the table in the booster. I think we stopped using the booster for my oldest DD around 3. QUOTE at what age do you let them have free reign of the house (like no gates or anything)? We took our gates down at the beginning of the year. There is a gate so they can't go up the stairs though, but that is the only one we have up now. So 22.5 months is when we took our gates down. Everything really depends on the child and what you are comfortable with.
I STILL help them brush their teeth (3 in March) but they get to try a little too!! I don't think I did that till after 2 (food on plate) I stopped using the feeding seat at 2.5 I still have gates up. One at the top of the stairs and one into my bathroom. (we don't have a door - it's a archway leading in - there are cleaners and stuff in there!)
at what age do you start having them brush their own teeth? Right now I don't think they can effectively brush their teeth and DH and I still do it. I vaguely remember but I believe my SD was about 3 when she really was able to follow directions and brush correctly with our supervision and sometimes we would go over them. at what age should you be able to give them food on a plate rather than just right on the tray? I started to give them food on a plate around a year but they were about 18 months or so when they would stop dumping the plates..they also still prefer to use their hands even though I give them utensils and try very hard to get them to use them. at what age should they stop needing a high chair? We are still using the highchairs and they are just now asking to pushed to the table rather then use the tray when we are eating together so I just feel more comfortable with them still using them at this point. at what age do you let them have free reign of the house (like no gates or anything)? We still have gates, we modified them around Christmas but some had to go back up. My house is set up living room, dinning room, kitchen and it is not straight through each room is divided by a wall so I cannot see them if they are not with me so our gate is up at the start of the dinning room and on the steps going upstairs because they will climb and I will probably leave it that way for awhile longer I can barely leave the room now to throw a load of wash in, grab a drink, use the bathroom without someone climbing/jumping anyway. It's much safer for me at the moment.

We still brush their teeth, we do it then let them do it "on their own". We've been giving them a plate, bowl, utensils, etc. since 18 months. They've recently gotten really good with their utensils. We moved them to boosters at the table around 18 months. They have free reign except for still having gates at the stairs. They got free reign when they started climbing, maybe 15 months? Recently my one DD has figured out how to get under the stair gate (it's flexible) so if it gets quiet we know what she's up to.

We'll be helping them for a long time to come, though. - We started utensils at 14 months, plates at 18. - We kept them in highchairs until they learned to remove the trays while seated in them... 21 or 22 months. - All gates were taken down when they got good at climbing over (just after their 2nd birthday). It was ROUGH. ETA: we had to take the stair gate down as well because they were pushing it up over the stop and swinging on it out over the stairs... no good at all... and they were climbing over it if it was closed
QUOTE at what age do you start having them brush their own teeth? We do a parent-child teamwork job. They have been helping brush their teeth since 12/13m. QUOTE at what age should you be able to give them food on a plate rather than just right on the tray? I wish we had introduced utensils (15m) and plates (18m) at the same time b/c the novelty of each introduction was negatively correlated with their calorie intake. I felt like we had just gotten over the 'spoons are cool' phase and then it was 'plates are cool'. QUOTE at what age should they stop needing a high chair? I have one who is Houdini and can wriggle out of his chair no matter how tight the straps are. I anticipate having to find a new option soon (22m), but am riding the wave for as long as I can b/c they are soooo not ready to just sit (and frankly, I'm not up for any further mealtime challenges) QUOTE at what age do you let them have free reign of the house (like no gates or anything)? We're working on this one currently. We got rid of all but stair gates at 16m. We still have our stair gate on, but it is really just an additional 'slow-down' barrier for me b/c they know how to open it. We keep it open at times and keep it closed at others (debid recommended a slow introduction to 'full freedom' and I've appreciated that advice very much). If I have to shower or I'm getting ready I keep it closed. I can hear it click open if they are making an escape attempt.
at what age do you start having them brush their own teeth? -- As soon as they started showing interest, we let them have a turn (maybe 15 mos.). They go first, then we go second. I still have to brush their teeth though. at what age should you be able to give them food on a plate rather than just right on the tray? -- At around 18 mos, we started giving them plates. I started to make dinner so we could eat together as a family. Everyone sat at the table (they were in boosters) with a placemat, plate, napkin, silverware. We didn't have any issues. I think as long as they are old enough to really understand no and consequences, they are old enough to eat off of a plate. at what age should they stop needing a high chair? -- Again at around 18 months, we were no longer using the trays. At 2y4m, we started using a Cooshie booster, which is just a booster on a chair with no straps or anything. at what age do you let them have free reign of the house (like no gates or anything)? -- We used to have one gate that we kept up between the kitchen and family room. That came down when they started walking at 15 mos. We just really did not need it anymore. Otherwise, my kids have always have free reign of the house. Our house is small and our rooms are pretty babyproofed, except for the office. So I just keep the door closed. They go in once and awhile, but there isn't really anything in there they can hurt or that can hurt them. My kids are also not really mischevious, when it comes to getting into things. We are pretty lucky.

In our case: We still brush their teeth because they wouldn't be able to do it well enough I started giving them bowls at home at about 1 year, paper plates at restaurants at about 15 months, and real plates at restaurants at a little over 3 years. They stopped using a high chair at around 2.5 years (we actually have Babee Tenda Feeding Tables and those have a bigger feeding area and are tip-proof) and they stopped using boosters about 6 months ago. We took down the gates at 3 years.
at what age do you start having them brush their own teeth? We have them do it and then we get a good brush before we take them away. We have done this since they turned 1. at what age should you be able to give them food on a plate rather than just right on the tray? They were using plates since we took they trays off the high chair at 14 months at what age should they stop needing a high chair? We used the highchairs without trays at 14 months and then stopped using the high chairs at 17 or 18 months. They sit at the dinner table with us in normal chairs. They are great eatters at what age do you let them have free reign of the house (like no gates or anything)? They have the entire downstairs (always have). The only gate we have is at the bottom of the stairs and we will probably get rid of that in a few months around 2 years.
This info has helped me too! Thank you! I just posted something very similar and got great answers. I just started officially brushing my girls teeth and they love it!! I thought I'd have to fight them, but of course, they want to do what Mommy does - so I always make them watch me first. so fun!!
at what age do you start having them brush their own teeth? they started doing it right before they turned 2 but of course I have to "help" them out at what age should you be able to give them food on a plate rather than just right on the tray? I started this right after 2, I have just now started giving them bowls of cereal with milk at what age should they stop needing a high chair? we are still using them here...of course they can climb right out and in them at what age do you let them have free reign of the house (like no gates or anything)? still don't do that. I would trust Joshie to roam more than Katie...she can't do anything out of eyesight without doing something she isn't supposed to
at what age do you start having them brush their own teeth? My guys started at 2.5, but I bought them the light up tooth brushes and fun toothpaste. Always make it fun! at what age should you be able to give them food on a plate rather than just right on the tray? I started at 2.5 with that as well. at what age should they stop needing a high chair? I hardly ever used a highchair with mine, I switched quickly to those booster chairs, I got them at walmart for 14 bucks each. at what age do you let them have free reign of the house (like no gates or anything)? Mine are still blocked off from certain areas.
QUOTE(~ilyse~ @ Jan 30 2008, 02:06 PM) at what age do you start having them brush their own teeth? We still brush them. at what age should you be able to give them food on a plate rather than just right on the tray? We started a few months ago- so 20 months. at what age should they stop needing a high chair? Mine still use one but might be okay with a booster. at what age do you let them have free reign of the house (like no gates or anything)? thanks in advance! Free reign came at about 18 months. But by that I meant the child-proofed downstairs that has a gate at the stairs that go up.
at what age do you start having them brush their own teeth? around 3 for my son - but i still go over them now after he brushes which the dentist says i still need to.... at what age should you be able to give them food on a plate rather than just right on the tray? around 18 months for us. at what age should they stop needing a high chair? My twins were done well before 1.5 - but my son sat in his till almost three.... at what age do you let them have free reign of the house (like no gates or anything)? We always gate the top of the stairs (and probably will till the twins are 6 or 7 cuz our staircases are steep) but the superyard just came down from blocking off the tv and stuff and the twins are almost two.
My girls "brush" their own teeth, but they don't have many and my pedi said until they get molars it's really more for practice and most important is getting water on the teeth to clear food debris. They have been eating with plates for about a month now. They've been sitting at their own mini table/chairs for a month now, but we still use highchairs when they are at the "big people" table. They've had full access to the home since day one, but we do keep a few doors shut: TV room, Office, and Guest Room as well as Bathrooms. Never had gates.
My kids get food on a plate and the plat stays 85% of the time. If they are not really hungry it goes flying. We have stair gates but they now have free reign of the house. They will be in high chairs until I trust them to sit still. I brush until they are 3 or 4! Even my 9 year old gets a brushing now and again!
QUOTE(~ilyse~ @ Jan 30 2008, 02:06 PM) at what age do you start having them brush their own teeth? We let them brush and then we go over, or visa versa and have done that since they were around 18 months. at what age should you be able to give them food on a plate rather than just right on the tray? If I remember correctly, around 15 months or so. at what age should they stop needing a high chair? That varied for my kids. My oldest used a highchair until he was about 2. My second until she was about 2 as well. But, we moved Z & H around 12 months into booster chairs because the 2 highchairs just took up too much room in the kitchen. Even now, we go back and forth with the booster (only to get them to the table and still be on their bum). Sometimes they want it others they want them off. No biggie to me to go back and forth right now. at what age do you let them have free reign of the house (like no gates or anything)? When my kids were able to crawl down the stairs they got free reign of the house. On average that was around 1 year that both my DH and I felt safe and had worked really hard with all of them to learn how to do it.b] thanks in advance!
at what age do you start having them brush their own teeth? Around 18m. They brush then we brush. at what age should you be able to give them food on a plate rather than just right on the tray? Around 15-18m. They are pretty good at it and sporks. at what age should they stop needing a high chair? We never used highchairs, just boosters. We are about to adjust to a table here, pretty soon, tho. I am afraid of the mess it will ensue. at what age do you let them have free reign of the house (like no gates or anything)? We don't have any gates up anymore, except for one around the computer. We prolly stopped using them around 20m. We keep all our doors shut tho. We may have to break them back out once they can open doors. thanks in advance!

At 10 months they were holding their own toothbrushes and "helping" and we would finish. Now @ 4, they do the brunt of it and we finish up so I guess not much has changed. 2. We started giving them plates around 1 year. 3. We stopped using highchairs @ 2 years old and switched to boosters. We tried to get rid of boosters at 3, but the kids just sat nicer and ate better w/ the booster seats. 4. We got rid of all gates right around 3 years old. We have child safety doorknob locks on rooms and closets we don't want them in. They pretty much know the boundaries of where they can and cannot do.
