At what age did you start reading to the twins?

I'm dying to read to the kids - but am not sure how to do it with twins who can't sit up yet (we don't have a good glider or rocker).

At what age did you start reading to them? And if they were babies, where did you hold them?

    Thanks in advance,
    Miriam

I started reading to mine around 4 months and they still love books now. I used to just lay them on their backs on the floor and lay in between them holding the book up in the air. You could also use bouncy seats and sit in between them [IMG]

I started reading to them when they were just a few weeks old and now they have so many expressions when I read. I usually put them on the floor and sit in between them.

  4. I have read to my boys from the very beginning. When they were really little, I would have one in the bouncy seat or laying on the floor and hold the ohter one in my lap. I read primarily to the one in my lap and then traded positions and read again. Once we were on a regular napping schedule, I would read them a book or two before they went down for a nap, which would mean at least 4 books a day. My husband is an avid reader and would read aloud anything he was reading to them at VERY young ages. Now at 11 months old, they play with their books constantly. They turn the pages and will sit still in my lap while I read to them. It's never to early to start.

    Good Luck

As soon as they came home from the hospital (5 and 6 weeks). At first I'd prop them in their boppies on either side of me, then eventually we all laid on our tummies to see the book. Now they either sit with me on the couch or we sit on the floor or lay on our tummies.

They went through a phase of constantly trying to grab the book from me, which made reading a bit difficult. But nowadays they just love reading time and just sit there and look at the pictures and listen to me. One of our favorite times of the day!

I think it works. They both love to just sit and look through books on their own, and Lily babbles and turns the pages, like she's really reading! I gotta put that on video - it is so cute!

Cloth books with touch and feel pages are GREAT. I read to them, and they also love to "look" through the pages. They go crazy when I read to them. They always try to grab the book and explore it on their own. That's why the cloth ones are so great.

I started reading to the twins when they were still in my womb [IMG]. Dh thought I was crazy but I read somewhere that if you read the same books they would recognize it once they were born. Don't know if that's true but I did it anyway. Oldest ds and I would read Good Night Moon every night to the babies. Now they are almost six months old and they love that book.

Like pp I read to them one at a time. Sometimes we will lie on the floor and I will read to both of them. Oldest ds likes to read to them too. I will but them in their bouncy seats and he will sit in between them. It’s the sweetest thing to watch him read to them and the twins really enjoy it too.

My DH read to my tummy every night before they were born. I lay them side by side or one on a boppy and one on my lap and make sure they can both see a page. They love to stare at the simple cloth books (big pictures, bright colors).

I also started reading to mine from the beginning. I read Goodnight Moon and the Bible to them every night when they were in the womb. I have propped them to read, put them in their bumbos, layed them down, and now I read to them when they're in their highchairs. They are very attentive and smile a lot. Mine tend to enjoy poems . . . I think they like the rhyming words. Read . . . Read . . . Read! It will make such a difference when they are in school.

From day one. Usually I'm holding one at a time. They just love to hear the sound of our voices; recognition will come later. I've brought out all my DD1's favorites. The other day I read "Home for a Bunny" for the first time in 10 years; it brought tears to my eyes!!

I started reading about a month ago...they were about 2.5 months. I put them in the bouncies and sat between them. Unfortunately, I have't been able to read much because if they're both up usually one is crying[IMG]

We started reading to them when they were in my belly. Specifically we read "Goodnight Moon" and the Dr. Seuss book to be read in utero (can't remember the name). Now when we read to them I usually prop them up on pillows on my bed or on the couch or when they are in their bouncy chairs. Wherever we can really.

    Have fun!

We started reading to them in the NICU during kangaroo care - each of us holding one, and then swap...have continued since then.

Now I read to them during the day and take turns having one in my lap - then both on the floor then both in my lap...it works anyway you want to do it [IMG]

Day one. My son is in a reading program at school, and brings home books to read every night. Usually the twins are there either awake or asleep, but it's good brother time for them. The boys all really enjoy it.
