wow, alot has changed in 2 days. My DD was projectile vomiting last night and my DS still hasn't slept more than three 3 hour naps in the past 3 days. He sleeps for 20-30 minutes at a time and that is it. The pedi said to do all the colic things (bouncy chair, car ride, swing) and see if that works. If not, we can try changing to soy formula.

For DD, keep an eye out and if she vomits again bring her to the pedi. Keep her at a 60 degree angle 1 hour after feeding, small frequent meals, and burp often. If that doesn't help, give 1 tsp. rice cereal in her bottle.

Hearing them both scream at the same time is so heart wrenching. I hope they aren't in pain. They don't have fevers or anything.

I want to know if this is a phase or does anyone elses babies have this long term?!

:hug99: I am so sorry you have to listen to them both scream. It is sooooooooooo hard. We were there with the reflux with both. Did you get any meds for the reflux? If you didnt and you dont get an improvement with what you are doing dont be afraid to go right back and say its not working. We got on Zantac at first and then to Prevacid which really helping with all the screaming. We did go see a Ped GI and his recommendations for the reflux were the Prevacid, incline for feedings than upright for 45 minutes, 2 tsps cereal/ounce of formula (best advice I got), and burping. We also used Maalox a bit in the beginning to help get the pain under control. I just wanted you to know what is available so if this doesnt work please ask for help from the Ped. Also maybe a switch to Nutramigen or Alimentum instead of soy may help with the colic and the reflux. Its expensive but it did the trick for us. Again, good luck. Reflux and colic are soooo hard!!

that's kinda the way things go around here too! I feel tag teamed most of the time - it's always one thing and another at the same time.

Ava had really bad reflux at that age and the pedi. put her on a couple of different medications which did not seem to help. sitting her up and frequent burping seemed to really be the best thing -
I am sorry that you are going through this! I don't know about the colic thing,- all I know is bless your heart! nursing has always calmed mine so I don't think mine were truly colicky -but boy did they cry it was almost like Addison knew I was helping Ava so she had to get my attention and visa versa! which they still do some but things have gotten easier esp. since they have started to crawl and are more independant.

I hope this passes very soon!!

That is definitely hard. My girls BOTH had reflux AND colic. Talk about screaming. :cray: For us, the colicky screams lasted until about 10 weeks and the my girls were on reflux meds until 10 months. It does get better for sure. :hug99:

:hug99: You are at a really tough age right now! REALLY tough! I agree with everything that Rachel said right down to the formula recommendation! :hug99:

Ours were both colicky too ... many tears were shed ... theirs and mine!!! It seemed that the colic got better around 12 weeks or so. They are still really fussy babies at 17 weeks old. I wondered what I did in another life to have deserved all the heart wrenching screaming. I'm sorry that you are having to deal with this. If it helps at all, one of the (many, many) books I read stated that most colicky babies grew up to be sweet and sensitive children. That is my hope anyway! They are, at least, gosh darned cute!

My DD had colic and right about 3 mo she got better. Now she is a much happier baby most of the time. Good luck it will end. 3 mo seems like forever. I didn't like people telling me it is only 3 mo. But I made it through and so will you. Good luck. I put my DD to bed and she slept alot. Since she was never awake and happy it helped. Now she is awake tons but much happier.
