DS has been crying non-stop all day long yesterday and today. He woke up with a fever this morning (101 degrees) and I gave him Motrin. The fever subsided within an hour and he has no other physical symptoms. He's not tugging on his ears to indicate an infection--there are no apparent physical symptoms. He is eating.I called the pediatrician and they said to keep on eye on him...

I am not kidding when I say he has been crying ALL day long. I ask him, "Do you want some milk? Do you want to read a story?" EVERYTHING is met with an emphatic, "NO!" I just made dinner and he yelled, "NO!" in angry protest when I put it in front of him.I yelled back, "Just eat your dinner!" I feel horrible right now. I am not a yeller. I left the room and am now typing this. What could this possibly be? :headbang:

Is it possible to have a non-stop tantrum, ALL day long? Could he be in some sort of pain that I'm not aware of? I've racked my brains trying to figure it out. It's got to be exhausting for him. I have tried everything I know to appease him, to comfort him, to help him, and EVERYTHING has been rejected. I'm at a loss here. :gah: Has anyone here ever experienced anything like this? Do you have insight on what this could be? I'm looking for answers, advice, you might have. I don't want to go through another day like today ever again. Thank you

i would be concerned that he's in some pain or discomfort that he's not able to communicate. even a low-grade sore throat would make a toddler cranky enough to have a fit. if it's outside of his character and you know he started the day with a fever, i would think that's an indication that he's not feeling good.

Could he be constipated? My son is one cranky guy when he is.

It's also allergy season. I'm pretty he has them as well. Since last Thursday he's been rubbing his eye (only one) and his nose. He also sounds stuffy. I gave him benadryl but only 1/2 teaspoon. It did not do the job so I gave him 1/4 more. He was horrible for a good 2 hours early today. After they woke from their nap I went and bought 24 hour Claritin and plan on giving it to him first thing tomorrow morning.

The fever could be unrelated to how he's feeling.

I would take him to the Ped and rule out and ear infection. They always alter my kids behavior for the worse. Dont feel bad for yelling. We all reach our limit.

ditto. I know 2 of mine have a had a hard time telling me what was wrong until it got REALLY bad. Seriously, 2 of mine can have raging ear infections and not tell me until their ear drums are ready to burst and then they are just miserable. He's probably not able to communicate what's wrong and might not even know. I might take him in just to get him checked over. Besides ears, throat and tummy the only other thing I can think of is teeth. Has he gotten his 2 yr. molars yet? Hang in there. Days like those can be so frustrating.

I'm sorry you're having such a rough day. I'm not a yeller either, but sometimes it's so hard when they are crying non stop. If he is still cranky tomorrow, I'd take him in to the doctor. My DS had an ear infection one time. He didn't have a lot of symptoms, but he was acting very cranky (with bouts of normal play time in between). He needed antibiotics and was much better in a day or two. I took my daughter in one time for mysterious symptoms. She only had a throat infection. Even though they couldn't do anything, I felt better ruling out anything more serious. It's really hard when they can't tell you what is wrong. Good luck. I hope he sleeps well tonight. Beth

I agree if he's not better by tomorrow, I'd bring him in to the pedi. The fever makes me wonder. I'd rather bring him in and have them tell me he's fine than wonder. I hate when they are like that. I think we've all dealt with a nonstop crying toddler. It's enough to drive you crazy. Don't feel bad about yelling. We have all been there. Good luck!

 I hope that your little guy is doing better today. I agree that if he does not seem better today, I would call the pedi to rule out an earache. When my DS had an earache he did not pull on his ears or exhibit the symptoms that my friends told me their kids exhibited. Everyone reaches their limit, a day of non-stop crying is taxing on everyone

How is it going? I hope DS is feeling better today; if not definitely bring him to the ped. It really sounds to me like he's in pain, or at least uncomfortable and is frustrated that he can't get any relief or tell you what is wrong.

And please don't beat yourself up about yelling. You had a really stressful day dealing with 2 toddlers, 1 super cranky, and worrying about illness on top of that!

Has he cut his 2 yr molars yet? I agree that getting the ears checked is never a bad idea, but when mine started cutting those molars, it was like a switch was flipped and they were cranky constantly. DS was the worst and complained constantly and hardly ate or wanted to do anything. Once they'd cut through and move up a bit he'd be better (luckily he got them 2 at a time).

I hope you figure out what is going on with the poor guy.

Thanks for all of your support ladies. Turns out my little guy has an ear infection  I am SO relieved to have an answer. Gave him some meds a little while ago and he already seems better...phew:)!

I'm glad you got an answer and he's feeeling better.

I NEVER know when mine have ear infections. They don't tug or pull at their ears, they never have fevers. They don't have issues falling or staying asleep. My only clue is days of crabbiness & being very clingy.

You would think by 28 months I'd have some things figured out. :pardon:
