In another post some of you mentioned you drink lots of Crystal light... is it ok to have the aspartame while pregnant? I've kinda stopped the mix-ins for this reason (my Dr. didn't tell me too) but it sure would increase the amount of water I drink if it's ok. Thanks!

When I mentioned to my OB that I was having a hard time keeping up on the amount of plain water she OK'd the Crystal Light (and other flavored waters). As long as I was getting more fluids it was good :good:

I stay away from all artifical sweetners myself. I won't even drink the "light" lemonade. That's just me though. I went through IVF and changed a lot of things during that process. I would talk to your DR and see what they think. I'm sure it's probably ok. Normally if I need a flavor rather than water I'll have a flavored Gatorade or juice.

Gatorade is good too. Some people can tolerate other things better then others and every doctors opinoins are different. As long as you are drinking fluid you should be fine.

I was one of the people who said I drank Crystal Light on the other thread. I actually try to only have 1-2 artificially sweetened drinks a day. I definitely don't put it in every time, but if I can't stand the thought of another ounce of water, it helps me to get more down. I think as long as it is in moderation, it should be fine. It wouldn't hurt to ask your doc what he thinks though.

Aspartame metabolizes into neurotoxin I was not willing to take that chance. (an industrial chemist told me this and I took it to heart)

Oh and my PTL was caused by dehydration.

I would not have aspartame or sachrin while pregnant. Its a risk and anything artificial is never great, especially things proven to be potentially unsafe.
I stopped splenda, b/c that is what I normally drink-
I would just drink water or make passion tea or other herbal teas and add reg sugar(not a lot). You could also add juice to water or sparkeling water.

I'm pretty sure the official word is that it's okay but I don't chance it. Those studies aren't exactly well-done. With this third pregnancy, I probably have had about 5-6 Crystal Light mix-ins but that's about it.
